Job description

We're looking for an experienced engineering leaderto lead the Wallets, eCommerce and Agentic Commerce platform for the company. This platform is used by tens of millions of cardholders around the world today. You should be technically hands-on, very good communicator, super creative and enjoy solving tough problems. You should be be able to communicate with engineers, product partners, senior leaders and external companies and industry bodies. You should be able to translate ambiguous business needs into technical requirements and technical architecture, convey complex technical challenges to various internal and external stakeholders. You should be obsessive about design, user experience, app performance.You should be familiar with modern software development methodologies, and be able to dive deep and rapidly iterate on ideas. You should be able to influence internal and external partners impacting the outcome. 

You'll be part of the Digital Payments and Labs Engineering team whose mandate is to develop new experiences and platforms for American Express customers at the cross roads of payments, identity and AI. You will get to influence the direction of agentic commerce in Amex and the industry at large.

Your primary responsibilities will be to lead a bunch of director teams building device/eCommerce wallets products, eCommerce checkout journeys and the Agentic Commerce Experiences (ACE) product, working with some of the leading tech companies and industry bodies of the world and internal consumers. You'll work with product managers and leaders to help define product direction, provide thought leadership on emerging technologies and create best of breed digital payment experiences that will set the standard for future development.

The below represents the expected salary range for this job requisition. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we'll consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering and 15+ years of equivalent experience in related disciplines 

  • Proven record of building distributed applications 

  • Demonstrated ability to solution, design with product and 3rd parties.  

  • Ability to work collaboratively, selflessly and effectively across functional areasand influence the outcome. 

  • Ability to effectively disseminate knowledge and mentor other developers thorough code reviews 

  • Experience building scalable, low latency APIs working in high-performing, iterative development teams 

  • Through understanding of modern tech stacks, API design, concepts of multi-threaded programming,data structure fundamentals, networking, sql and non-sql DBs.  

  • Self-motivated and able to thrive in a just-in-time environment 

  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills 

  • Understanding of lean principles and their manifestation in efficient software development practices is a plus 

  • Experience with payments technology, payment cryptography 

  • Knowledge of iOS or Android is a plus. 

  • Publication of blogs and/or experience participating in industry forums is a plus.
