What is ecommerce data analytics?

Ecommerce Data Analytics involves collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data from online sales and customer interactions to improve business decisions. Professionals in this field use tools to track metrics like conversion rates, customer behavior, sales trends, and marketing effectiveness. The insights gained help ecommerce businesses optimize their operations, personalize customer experiences, and increase profitability. Ecommerce data analysts often work with large datasets, using statistical techniques and data visualization to uncover patterns and opportunities for growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an ecommerce data analyst?

To thrive as an Ecommerce Data Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of data modeling, and a background in statistics or a related field, often supported by a relevant degree. Proficiency in data analytics tools such as Google Analytics, SQL, Excel, and data visualization platforms like Tableau is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication are essential soft skills for interpreting data and sharing actionable insights with stakeholders. These skills enable analysts to drive data-informed decisions that optimize online sales performance and customer experience.

Qualifications

Required:
  • 2+ years of experience in e-commerce data management, product listing, or catalog operations
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Direct experience with at least one major marketplace platform, such as Amazon Vendor/Seller Central, Wayfair Partner Home, Walmart Seller Center, or similar
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify errors in large datasets
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
Preferred:
  • Experience in the furniture, home furnishings, or home decor industry
  • Familiarity with Amazon Vendor Central, including variation groupings, A+ Content, and flat file uploads
  • Experience managing large, multi-category product catalogs

Benefits
