Skills and Competencies

  • 5+ years of professional front-end development experience, and a track record of exceptional work: A strong portfolio of production-quality interactive data stories and prototypes.
  • Proven ability to translate design concepts into responsive, accessible, and high-performing front-end experiences.
  • Strong editorial and storytelling instincts, with the ability to communicate complex data through compelling visual narratives and clear points of view.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with experience partnering closely with designers, analysts, editorial teams, and leadership while explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong foundation in design principles, including grid systems, typographic hierarchy, layout composition, and editorial design sensibilities.
  • Expert-level proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with hands-on experience using D3, Canvas, or similar data visualization libraries; proficient in at least one analytical programming language, such as R or Python, and able to apply statistical thinking to real-world problems.
  • Experience working with modern JavaScript frameworks such as Svelte, as well as familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud tools (Illustrator and Photoshop), web production workflows and Mac OS environments; proven ability to leverage AI tools to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency while being aware of AI risk management with a commitment to responsible and ethical AI use.
  • Preferred: Experience with geospatial tools such as QGIS; exposure to WebGL or creative coding frameworks (e.g., P5.js, Three.js); experience with 3D tools such as Cinema 4D or Blender; and motion graphics or video editing capabilities.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Computer Science, Digital Media, Data Visualization, Journalism, Information Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Advanced training or certifications in data visualization, front-end development, user experience design, analytics, or emerging technologies is preferred

Responsibilities

Own the build and evolution of award-worthy interactive data experiences that blend storytelling, design, and technology.

  • Design and deliver interactive and static data visualizations that communicate complex financial, economic, and risk-related insights.
  • Partner with analysts, editors, designers, and business stakeholders to identify storytelling opportunities and create compelling digital experiences.
  • Build responsive, accessible, and high-performing front-end experiences from concept through production using modern web technologies.
  • Explore and analyze datasets to uncover insights and recommend innovative approaches for visual communication and audience engagement.
  • Develop and maintain reusable visualization components, design systems, and technical standards that improve scalability and consistency.
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies, including AI-enabled solutions, to enhance storytelling capabilities and operational efficiency.
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor and mentor, promoting best practices, innovation, and continuous improvement across the team.
  • Represent the team's technical perspective in cross-functional discussions, helping translate strategic objectives into engaging digital experiences.

For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $75,600 - $124,700.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation. Moody’s also offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
