Are ECMO specialists in demand?

ECMO specialists are in high demand due to the increasing use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation technology in critical care settings. They typically require specialized training and certification, and job opportunities are growing as hospitals expand ECMO programs to treat severe respiratory and cardiac failure cases.

How much does an ECMO technician make?

An ECMO technician typically earns between $50,000 and $80,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and certifications. They work in critical care environments, operating and maintaining extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machines, often requiring specialized training and certification.

How to become an ECMO technologist?

To become an ECMO technologist, individuals typically need a background in respiratory therapy, nursing, or perfusion technology, along with specialized training in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) systems. Certification through organizations like the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion or the National Board for Respiratory Care is often required, and on-the-job training or clinical experience in critical care settings is essential.
