Position Overview

KIPP Gaston College Preparatory seeks an experienced Exceptional Children (EC) Instructional Coach to provide coaching, technical assistance, professional development, and program support to special education staff. This is an independent contractor position that will remain in effect through December 31, 2026.

The contractor will partner with the EC Director, Managing Director of Student Support Services, school leaders, and staff to strengthen instructional practices, improve student outcomes, support compliance with federal and state special education requirements, and build staff capacity to serve students with disabilities.

Scope of Services

The contractor will provide support in the following areas:

Instructional Coaching and Support
  • Observe EC teachers and provide individualized feedback
  • Support implementation of evidence-based instructional practices
  • Model instructional strategies and intervention techniques
  • Assist teachers in planning specially designed instruction
  • Support effective progress monitoring practices
  • Analyze student performance data with teachers and school leaders
Professional Learning
  • Design and facilitate professional development sessions
  • Support the development and mentoring of beginning EC teachers
  • Develop resources, tools, and instructional supports for EC staff
  • Provide coaching related to accommodations, modifications, and service delivery
Program Improvement
  • Support implementation of inclusive practices and least restrictive environment (LRE) opportunities
  • Assist with strengthening intervention systems and MTSS processes
  • Support Child Find efforts and referral processes
  • Collaborate with school leaders to identify instructional and programmatic improvement opportunities
Compliance Support
  • Provide guidance regarding IDEA requirements and implementation
  • Support high-quality IEP development and implementation
  • Assist staff in maintaining documentation and progress monitoring systems
  • Support implementation of state and district special education procedures
Requirements Qualifications
  • Valid North Carolina Exceptional Children teaching license
  • Minimum of five years of successful experience in special education
  • Demonstrated experience coaching or mentoring educators
  • Strong knowledge of IDEA, North Carolina EC procedures, and evidence-based instructional practices
  • Experience facilitating adult learning and professional development
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

  • Monthly summaries of services provided
  • Recommendations for instructional and program improvements
Contract Term

August 2026 - December 31, 2026

Classification

Independent Contractor (1099)

The selected contractor will operate as an independent contractor and will not be considered an employee of KIPP Gaston College Preparatory. The contractor will not be eligible for employee benefits, leave, retirement benefits, workers' compensation coverage, or unemployment benefits through KIPP Gaston College Preparatory.
