Job description

Position Summary: The Lead Driver โ€“ Eastern Shore coordinates daily delivery operations for Eastern Shore routes, ensuring accurate meal distribution, timely dispatch of drivers, effective client service communication, inventory accountability, and safe vehicle operation. The Lead Driver is also responsible for delivering client orders off assigned routes. They also report essential information to Client Services staff about client needs, changes, and returns.ย  The Lead Driver manages return inventory for any excess or short inventory and communicates this information to the Distribution and Distribution Managers daily.ย 

Lead Drivers are responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of their assigned vehicles.

  • Responsible for maintaining delivery accuracy, on-time route departures, vehicle inspection compliance, and timely communication of client and inventory issues.
  • At the end of the week reviews the next weekโ€™s daily route sheets for themselves and other ES drivers, and finalizes a delivery plan, conferring with Transportation Manager as necessary, to ensure the dispatch plan is appropriate to meet expected meal drop-offs.
  • Daily, works with Eastern Shore (ES) Delivery Drivers to insure proper client orders are packed onto the vehicles with all items scheduled for delivery including food, supplies and informational flyers ensuring that clients receive items as scheduled.
  • Properly packs, stores and returns meals for delivery onto their vehicle to ensure appropriate safety and quality control measures are in place.
  • Once all ES drivers have been instructed on their routes, completes assigned daily delivery routes as assigned.
  • Adheres to all traffic laws and safe driving practices as required by the Moveable Feast driverโ€™s manual.
  • Makes regular contact with assigned clients to ensure successful delivery, determine any needed changes, and relay information to Client Services team.
  • Engages respectfully, courteously and pleasantly with each staff member and client, noting any special needs or problems which may be apparent. Always maintains strict client confidentiality.
  • Performs daily and weekly vehicle inspections as required.
  • Coordinates with the Transportation and Distribution Manager on all returns, mispicks and any other issues as they are discovered.
  • Coordinates with the Transportation and Distribution team to ensure that returns are sent back each week with the Delivery Driver.
  • Coordinates with the Client Services Department in handling special client requests and redeliveries.
  • Coordinates with the Delivery Drivers for all inbound routes each week and works with the Assistant Distribution Manager as needed to confirm that all meals and produce arrived as expected to the Crossdock facility (in Cambridge, MD).ย 
  • Reports any organizational changes in policies and procedures to other Eastern Shore Drivers.
  • Maintains loading dock area
  • Manages returns space
  • Cleans dock as needed
  • Removes waste and materials from the docks
  • Reports any specials needs or problems to the Transportation Manager.
  • Engages in regular training on interacting with clients, safe driving practices, vehicle safety and maintenance and other training topics as required.

Other Duties:

  • Assists with organizing Moveable Feast events as required.
  • Adheres to all Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations, by protecting the privacy and security of all patient/client health information.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to Moveable Feastโ€™s Personnel Policies and Procedures.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned or requested.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Possess a valid Maryland driverโ€™s license with no points on MVA Record.
  • Have at least one year of experience as a delivery driver utilizing a large vehicle or passenger size van.
  • Have prior experience following an assigned route with experience delivering in Maryland preferred.
  • Have at least one year of customer service and leadership experience.
  • Have prior work or volunteer experience working with diverse and marginalized populations preferred.

  • Must adhere to high ethical standards of integrity and discretion in working with confidential information.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Teams for calendaring, correspondence, presentations, special reports, spreadsheets, etc.
  • Must possess strong time management and organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with internal staff and external stakeholders
  • Able to lift 50 pounds.
