Fresno Pacific University invites applications for an adjunct faculty position in earth science/geology serving traditional undergraduate and degree completion students. The department offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology, Kinesiology, Pre-Health, and Environmental Science/Studies; a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics; and offers a variety of science and math courses serving the general education component of the university's degrees. Modern facilities house faculty offices and laboratories; the campus is in close proximity to regional medical centers, natural areas such as Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks, and the nation's most productive agricultural region. Department faculty members are committed to excellent teaching; our graduates have a strong record of career placement and acceptance into graduate and professional schools.
Essential Functions

• Teach an online course in earth science/introductory geology; possibly teach other physical science courses as program need and instructor interest dictates
• Discuss class progress with the program coordinator, including teaching performance through observation
• Collaborate with other faculty as needed

Qualifications
Required:

• M.A. or Ph.D. in related field of study
• Experience in teaching earth science, geology, and/or other related physical science courses
• Ability to work with students, staff, and faculty in a collegial environment
• Commitment to the Christian faith and the University's mission of Christ-centered teaching and learning and involvement in a local church.

Preferred:

• Experience in online instruction using the Canvas learning management system.

Environmental Conditions:

• Indoors in a normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes at least eighty percent (80%) of the time.
• Frequent computer use at a workstation, up to eight hours per day.
• Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
• Drive personal or University vehicles to appointments.
• Public contact position requiring professional apparel, personal hygiene, and grooming.

Physical Demands:

• This position typically functions indoors in an office environment with light to moderate noise associated with business office equipment. The position may involve travel for meetings and events.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: remain in a stationary position 80 % of the time, be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets/office machinery etc., operate a computer and keyboard and other office productivity machinery such as calculators/copy machines/printers. The employee is occasionally required to position self to reach items on the floor and in high cabinetry.
• The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Employee must be able to communicate with others to exchange information including both over the telephone and in-person communication with callers and community members and be able to read a computer screen and paper documents.

Compensation is based on highest completed degree level:
Non-Terminal degree: Anticipated pay per unit $811.51, $23.97 per hour
Terminal degree: Anticipated pay per unit $977.98, $28.82 per hour
