Job description

About the Role:

Planet is seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Technical Marketing Manager to bring our Earth Observation (EO) data and technical workflows to life. In this role, you will sit at the intersection of product, engineering, and marketing, serving as a core creative technologist for our solutions. You will be responsible for translating complex technical capabilities into visually stunning, easily digestible product demos, animations, and video content that resonate with both technical practitioners and executive buyers.

On a day-to-day basis, you will get hands-on with Planet's data, APIs, and platform tools to build authentic workflows, and then use your creative chops to capture and polish those workflows into high-impact marketing assets. You will execute the production of product demonstration videos, technical webinars, and interactive visual content.

The ideal candidate is a rare hybrid: an EO practitioner who understands geospatial data, and a technical creative who is highly proficient in video editing, animation, and visual storytelling. You don't just talk about the technology; you build with it and show the world how it works.

This is a full-time, hybrid role which will require you to work from our San Francisco or Washington D.C. office 3 days per week.

Impact You'll Own:

  • Design and execute compelling product demos that showcase the power and utility of Planet's EO data, APIs, and analytics solutions for various industry use cases.
  • Execute the production of technical video content, from scripting and screen-capturing complex EO workflows to editing, animating, and final polishing.
  • Translate complex geospatial concepts into clear visual assets, creating high-quality graphics, imagery, and animations for use across the website, campaigns, and sales enablement.
  • Operate technical EO workflows hands-on, utilizing GIS software, APIs, and scripting to extract the best data narratives directly from Planet's platform.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and Senior PMMs to deeply understand new feature releases and determine the most impactful way to visualize them for the market.
  • Maintain a library of technical marketing assets, ensuring the sales team always has access to the most up-to-date and visually impressive demonstration materials.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree in a related technical or creative field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in technical marketing, product marketing, content creation, or a related role within the B2B tech space.
  • Strong technical creative portfolio demonstrating expertise in the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically video editing and animation (e.g., Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator).
  • Hands-on proficiency with GIS software (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS) and spatial data analysis.
  • Familiarity with Python or basic scripting to automate data extraction and operate technical workflows.
  • Deep understanding of the Earth Observation (EO) industry and geospatial data.
  • Excellent visual storytelling skills with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts.
  • Self-starter mentality with the organizational skills to manage multiple production pipelines simultaneously.

What Makes You Stand Out:

  • Experience with 3D animation (e.g., Blender, Cinema 4D) or advanced data visualization tools.
  • Prior experience creating content specifically for the satellite, space, or remote sensing industries.
  • A strong, AI-native workflow, utilizing modern AI tools to accelerate video production, generate creative assets, or streamline scripting.
