Job description


I. Job Summary
This role leads the development and continuous improvement of environmental programs to support all field operations. The responsibilities include building and enhancing the environmental program framework and elements to address process improvement needs, changes in environmental regulations and promotion of a continued strong environmental culture within the organization.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Monitor for changes in federal environmental regulatory requirements. Initiate and participate in developing the Company's response to new or changing regulations on a national basis. Develop technical guidance on new regulatory requirements to ensure consistent interpretation and action by WM operations.
  • Assist in development of environmental policies, directives, standards and guidance that serve to effectively communicate and ensure implementation of the WM Environmental Management System (EMS) elements and communicate Company expectations for management of environmental aspects not always served by regulation.
  • Continually improve and manage Information Services for compliance assurance, self-assessment, corrective/preventive measure tracking, and environmental metrics.
  • Develop and/or enhance existing environmental training programs including the Environmental Professional Learning Series (EPLS) and Environmental Compliance Awareness Program (ECAP). Develop additional training curriculum as needs/priorities are identified. Conduct environmental training of employees at various levels as needed.
  • Provide technical and regulatory assistance to field operations as needed on significant environmental risk impacts and agency and company-identified issues through resolution, which includes both correction and prevention from recurrence.
  • Develop and execute routine communications with Corporate and Area management regarding both significant development projects as well as to ensure compliance and consistency with company-wide environmental protection programs.

    • 4 years relevant work experience
    • 7 years environmental experience with at least 5 years of proven leadership related experience
    • 2 years solid waste/landfill experience
