Key Responsibilities
- Process Design & Optimization - Develop, evaluate, and improve chemical manufacturing processes to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and lower costs.
- Data Analysis - Collect and analyze process data using statistical tools to identify trends, root causes of issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Production Support - Provide technical support to production teams to resolve process-related issues, minimize downtime, and ensure consistent product quality.
- Documentation - Create and maintain process documentation including SOPs, work instructions, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), and facility diagrams.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration - Work closely with R&D, quality, EHS, maintenance, and supply chain teams to support new product introductions, scale-up activities, and process changes.
- Safety & Compliance - Ensure all chemical processes comply with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable safety and environmental regulations. Champion a culture of safety throughout the facility.
- Actively participate in and promote the facility's Process Safety Management (PSM) program. Conduct and participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs)
- Support Management of Change (MOC) processes for all process modifications.
- Continuous Improvement - Lead and participate in Lean Six Sigma initiatives, Kaizen events, and waste reduction projects to drive operational excellence
- Troubleshooting - Investigate and resolve process deviations, chemical non-conformances, yield losses, and quality issues using structured problem-solving methodologies.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field (e.g., Chemistry, Process or Industrial Engineering).
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience in a process engineering role within a chemical manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience applying Lean Six Sigma methodologies in a manufacturing setting
- Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) programs in a chemical facility - preferred
- Familiarity with P&ID development and review.
- Knowledge of PHA, FMEA and other risk assessment methodologies.
- Experience with ERP/MES systems (e.g., Oracle) is a plus.
Working Conditions
- Primarily chemical plant/manufacturing floor environment.
- Regular exposure to chemical processing areas requiring strict adherence to PPE protocols (safety glasses, gloves, chemical-resistant clothing, etc.).
- May require occasional travel to other facilities, supplier sites, or customer locations.
