Job description

The Opportunity

The New Equipment Prep Technician is responsible for the assembly, preparation, and final setup of new heavy equipment prior to delivery to customers.
This is not a traditional Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) role — it is focused on new machine builds, accessory installation, predelivery preparation, and branding work within the shop.

The technician ensures every new machine is professionally assembled according to build specifications and dealership standards before it goes to retail customers.

The Role

Equipment Assembly & PreBuilds

  • Assemble and prepare new heavy equipment—primarily Hitachi excavators and Wheel loaders
  • Work on two units at a time, aligning machines and components per required build specs and within budget.
  • Perform prebuild tasks to ready equipment for retail and customer delivery.

Attachment & System Installation

  • Install and test:
    • Webasto and engine block heaters
    • Positive air shutoff systems
    • Attachments and guarding
    • Hydraulic kits
    • Machine programing
    • PDI (PreDelivery Inspection)
    • Additional accessories or branding components as required.

Branding & Presentation

  • Apply decals, branding, and finishing touches to meet dealership standards.
  • Ensure machines are clean, complete, and presentationready.

Shop Support & Documentation

  • Complete predelivery inspection forms and related documentation.
  • Coordinate upcoming builds with the Service Manager.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and components installed.
  • Participate in required Health & Safety training and follow all safety procedures.
  • Perform housekeeping duties and contribute to a clean, organized shop environment.

The Candidate

Experience & Skills

  • Experience assembling or working with large excavators or heavy equipment preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude—does not require a trade certification.
  • Stocked toolbox including hand tools, power tools and precision tools
  • Ability to interpret build sheets, installation instructions, and accessory requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship.
  • Reliable, safetyfocused, and able to work efficiently in a highvolume prep environment.

Ideal Candidate Attributes

  • Comfortable with repetitive, consistent tasks — this role involves daily prep work on new equipment.
  • Looking for a longterm position with stable expectations and routine.
  • Enjoys handson mechanical work and assembling components.
  • Values structure, process, and consistency.

Education

  • Mechanical, assembly, or shop experience is required.
  • Experience with Microsoft office, OEM software.
  • Apprentice Heavy Equipment Technician.
  • Automotive Technician.
