Job description

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is looking for someone to join our Process Engineering team in Manufacturing Operations as an Engineering Support Specialist I in West Lafayette, Indiana. As an Engineering Support Specialist I you'll be responsible for completing basic testing, services, or troubleshooting of SEL products and processes in accordance with defined procedures under the direction of more experienced staff. This position requires strong collaboration, a composed demeanor, technical proficiency, and a continuous improvement mindset to enhance product quality, operational efficiency, and customer support.

A typical day as an Engineering Support Specialist I might include:

  • Providing status updates to SEL staff and customers.

  • Communicating effectively with team and internal partners and customers.

  • Following department processes while communicating opportunities for improvement to documentation or work instructions.

  • Representing your team by participating in collaborative improvement efforts.

  • Developing basic proficiency in the activities required to support one of the Operation Team's disciplines (i.e. Flowline product failures, Product Hospital, test infrastructure support, or Test Lab), or R&D's disciplines (i.e. Lab Support, Product Test, Infrastructure, or Compliance).

  • Learning and applying SEL Values, Principles of Operation, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

This job might be for you if:

  • You have 2+ years' familiarity with Manufacturing and Engineering.

  • You are able to efficiently operate Windows and MS Office tools.

  • You have strong written, verbal, and documentation skills.

  • You are interested in learning new technologies and assuming new responsibilities.

  • You have proven ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

  • Enjoy working on a computer.

It is a plus if you have:

  • Two years' experience working with SEL products

  • Experience with computer-controlled test equipment

  • Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, electronic schematics, and wiring diagrams

Physical Requirements

  • Lift, push, pull and maneuver up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 35 pounds occasionally

  • Sit and stand for at least 8 hours

  • Vision correctable to 20/30 or better

  • Ability to differentiate color

  • Use of computer keyboard devices

Pay Range Data: $25.96-$38.37 per hour
