A Brief Summary of This Position:

Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Manufacturing Intern position in the NA Ops Division. We are looking for a highly driven individual that will be an active participant in contributing to the goals of the NA Operations Oklahoma Operations team. You will learn a tremendous amount in this role and will be given exposure to other parts of the business, including subject matter experts from a wide variety of divisions and professions. This role is ideal for a self-motivated and driven engineering/business student who has a desire to learn and grow in a manufacturing environment where your work will make a difference on a daily basis.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with engineering, supply chain, HR, operations, quality and safety on projects and daily work functions.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing solutions to improve business processes.
  • Apply lean/manufacturing principles in order to achieve business objectives.
  • Assist with the establishment of production standards.
  • Work with an operations team consisting of production staff, production support, quality assurance and operations.
  • Assist in identifying capacity constraints, quality issues, design improvements, as well as additional processes.
  • Participate in hands-on learning experiences through project work, leadership development, job shadowing and interaction with senior leadership.
  • Present learning and recommendations to various business leaders in both individual and group project formats.
  • Other duties as required/assigned.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Enrolled in accredited university and actively pursuing a degree in a manufacturing/mechanical engineering, civil engineering and/or business operations, supply chain, safety, etc.
  • Junior or senior standing.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint application.
  • Demonstrated strong communication interpersonal, verbal, written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated problem solving/critical thinking skills.

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in a manufacturing plant environment and the incumbent needs to be able to move about the office and all areas of the plant which are producing product lines for the company. Some exposure to somewhat disagreeable work conditions such as dust, dirt, heat, fumes, and cold as well as noise levels above 80 decibels may be present when doing projects in the production area. Work conditions vary throughout the week depending on the project(s) the intern is assigned to. There will be visits to both indoor and outdoor locations during all seasons of the year. There is no international travel required for this position. The work environment can be fast-paced and demanding at times.
