Job Description IC&E Designer III (Smart Instrumentation / AutoCAD) Location: Geismar, LA or Ames, IA-On-Site Duration: 12 Month Contract Industry: Oil & Gas / Refining / Industrial Manufacturing Job ID: CVX2JP00030236 Rate: $45-$50/Hr Position Overview Seeking an experienced Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical (IC&E) Designer to support industrial facility operations through Smart Instrumentation (SI) and AutoCAD design execution. This role is responsible for field verification, as-built documentation, instrumentation database maintenance, and electrical/instrumentation design support for Management of Change (MOC), maintenance, and capital projects within operating process facilities. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience working in brownfield industrial environments, supporting instrumentation and electrical systems documentation, and maintaining accurate engineering records within Process Safety Management (PSM) regulated facilities.

Key Responsibilities Perform field walkdowns and site surveys to verify instrumentation and electrical installations. Execute as-built reconciliation activities by incorporating field-verified conditions and redline markups into engineering documentation. Maintain and update Smart Instrumentation (SI) databases, including: Instrument Index Loop Module Wiring & Termination Module Instrument Tag Registers Specification Sheet Modules Create, revise, and maintain AutoCAD drawings including: Electrical One-Line Diagrams Wiring Diagrams Cable Schedules Motor Schematics Control Loop Drawings Panel and Marshalling Cabinet Drawings General Arrangement and Installation Drawings Support Management of Change (MOC) implementation through design documentation updates.

Identify and resolve discrepancies between field conditions, Smart Instrumentation records, and engineering drawings. Coordinate with engineers, reliability teams, maintenance personnel, and operations stakeholders. Ensure engineering documentation remains compliant with Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements.

Support maintenance and capital project execution through accurate design deliverables. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Additional technical coursework in: Instrumentation Technology Electrical Design CAD Drafting Smart Instrumentation (SI) / SPI / INtools Minimum 5 years of industrial IC&E design or drafting experience.

Strong AutoCAD experience in industrial environments. Hands-on Smart Instrumentation (SI), SPI, or INtools experience. Experience performing field verification and site walkdowns.

Experience generating and maintaining as-built documentation. Experience supporting operating industrial facilities. Strong understanding of instrumentation and electrical documentation.

Preferred Qualifications Associate Degree in Electrical Technology, Instrumentation Technology, Drafting & Design Technology, or related field. 10+ years of industrial IC&E design experience. Extensive Smart Instrumentation (SI), SPI, or INtools experience.

Experience supporting Management of Change (MOC) processes. Experience working in refineries, chemical plants, petrochemical facilities, terminals, pipelines, or other PSM-covered facilities. Strong understanding of instrumentation, controls, and electrical systems.

Experience supporting brownfield facility modifications and upgrades.
