Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Mechanic must provide maintenance of all North Pacific Fuel equipment located in Dutch Harbor, which includes all trucks, light and heavy equipment, pumps, and all tank-farm equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

  • Responsible for the maintenance and repairs on all North Pacific Fuel vehicles and equipment located in Dutch Harbor. Equipment includes: pick-up trucks, fuel tank trucks, forklifts, loaders, 40-ton Hyster Crane, Ottawa Yard Tractors, flatbed trucks, Bobcat loader, Vac Truck, spill response outboard motors and various equipment trailers.
  • Perform diagnostic tests for routine maintenance procedures on trucks and equipment. 
  • Maintain various valves, meters and transfer pumps related to the fuel tank farms and safe transfer of petroleum products.
  • Ensure that all equipment complies with federal and state vehicle requirements.
  • Maintain vehicle records.
  • Minor fabrication and light duty welding.
  • Utilize appropriate resources such as parts manual, computer, service bulletins and other resources to research problems and determine most effective and efficient method for repair and locate parts. 
  • Maintain a preventative maintenance program and prioritize repairs.
  • Responsible for managing parts and equipment inventory systems for all equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment. 
  • Must work well with customers, employees and managers.
  • Participate in all required training and drills.
  • Participate in emergency oil spill response situations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Must have (or be willing to obtain) 24-hour HAZWOPER Certification.
  • Valid Alaska State Driver's License required.  CDL preferred but not required.
  • Must apply for a TWIC card (Transportation Workers Identification Credential) within 30 days from date of hire at your own personal expense.
  • It is required by the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002(MTSA) that you maintain a valid TWIC card in order to work at this facility.  You must keep your TWIC card current and valid as a condition of employment.
  • 5 years minimum of light and heavy equipment and pump repair.
  • Fuel tank truck maintenance preferred.
  • Working knowledge and understand basic hydraulic repair and electrical systems.
  • Capability to diagnose and repair late model vehicles.
  • Must have basic computer skills. May be required to update and keep current computerized maintenance records.
