Duke University is seeking a Van Services Driver to support safe, reliable, and courteous transportation services in a demand-response environment. In this role, you'll work closely with dispatch to transport passengers efficiently while providing a positive and comfortable experience for every rider.
You'll be a key frontline representative of Duke, using sound judgment, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safety to support daily transportation operations. This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys working independently, interacting with passengers, and maintaining high safety and service standards.
Minimum Requirements
  • Ability to follow instructions normally acquired through partial high school education
  • Ability to operate in a demand-response transportation environment and coordinate with dispatch

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience operating passenger vehicles or providing customer-facing transportation services

Other Requirements
  • Familiarity with two-way radios, tablets, or similar communication tools
  • Ability to work varying hours, primarily evenings, including outside regular business hours as service demands require
  • Ability to complete required paperwork, reports, and inspections accurately and on time
  • Commitment to following all safety, traffic laws, and university policies

  • Safely operate vans to transport passengers while adhering to traffic laws, service routes, and safety standards
  • Follow dispatch instructions and use judgment to plan efficient pick-up and drop-off sequences
  • Assist passengers as needed and answer service-related questions politely and accurately
  • Complete required manifests, inspections, accident reports, and other documentation
  • Use two-way radios and tablets to communicate incidents, emergencies, or service updates
  • Attend required training and maintain knowledge of service routes, safety procedures, and regulations
  • Prepare written reports related to accidents, incidents, or vehicle issues as needed

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $18.00 to USD $22.87.
