Job Summary:The Lead Financial Analyst position will report to the Manager of RRE, ESGS & SPC Consolidations Finance, supporting the Regulated & Renewable Energy (RRE), Enterprise Safety & Generation Services (ESGS), and System Planning & Construction (SPC). This position will support the RRE, ESGS & SPC's, O&M and Capital consolidations, reporting and analysis for a combined total annual budget of approximately $4-6 billion. The Lead will be responsible for coordinating the cost management reporting, accounting and financial analysis, business planning and all key operational finance functions. The Lead will provide support to the organization's senior leadership as needed.
RRE is responsible for operating and maintaining over 43,000 MWs of generating capacity (approximately 80% of Duke Energy's total regulated generating capacity), including Coal, Combined Cycle, Combustion Turbine, Hydro-Electric and Regulated Solar Energy generation across six states. Total annual budget is approximately $2 billion between O&M, Capital, ARO and Cost of Removal (COR).
ESGS is responsible for a variety of different support organizations: Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S), Coal Combustion Products (CCP), Enterprise Operational Excellence, Enterprise Training, Project Controls and Central Operational & Services Oversight (COSO).
The EH&S organization is responsible for the safety and environmental compliance of Duke Energy enterprise wide, which includes various areas of routine work and support. In addition, EH&S also has responsibilities, separate and apart from the Coal Combustion Products (CCP) organization, for groundwater sampling and monitoring, coal ash permitting and municipal water/bottled water services for all affected sites and residential areas. EH&S also has many environmental remediation projects that require ongoing financial support. Estimated total annual budget is approximately $1 billion between O&M and ARO
The CCP organization manages coal ash activities within Duke Energy's six (6) jurisdictions. Estimated total annual budget is approximately $2 billion between O&M and ARO with an additional oversight for the life to date estimated spend of $10-12 billion in ARO,
Central Operational & Services Oversight (COSO) provides governance and outage support to RRE and Nuclear.
SPC is responsible for the integrated resource planning and execution, technology determinations, renewables project development, fuels and system optimization and major project management and construction to help meet Duke Energy's clean energy transformation goals across all jurisdictions. Total annual budget is approximately $1-2 billion between O&M, Capital and ARO.
Position will frequently interface with Regional RRE, ESGS & SPC Finance Directors, RRE Regional Finance Leads and other RRE Finance Staff members, different departments within the company, such as Asset Accounting, Compliance, Corporate Controllers & Accounting, Rates & Regulatory, internal/external auditors and all corporate finance departments for issues/resolution on financial/cost management items. This position requires a blended knowledge of operational, technical, and functional financial reporting and analysis skills.
Position must have strong ability to lead and direct financial activities, evaluate change management efforts, and drive business process improvement efforts. The Lead Financial Analyst is required to perform all their duties, duties of a senior and have the ability to back up the Director when needed. Position will effectively provide leadership (advising and providing direction) to others in financial areas of specialization and may coordinate daily work activities or review the work of other teammates.Position works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations. Effective leadership, communication and collaboration skills are essential for this position as this position is responsible for functions and activities that impact a variety of different departments within the company. Maintaining a positive outlook is critical.
ResponsibilitiesJob responsibilities and duties supporting all groups RRE, ESGS & SPC include but are not limited to:
Cost Management Reporting & Financial Analysis:
Coordinate and prepare RRE's consolidated cost management reporting, variance analysis, year-end projections for Corporate ROCR, RRE Executive financial summaries and other financial presentations as needed.
Coordinate the month-end close activities.
Validate projections uploaded to correct target amounts.
Prepare and or review and post journal entries (accruals and corrections).
Provide financial, accounting, and business management analytical support to various levels of management and business partners.
Analyze data, identify and correct errors to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial information.
Oversee, monitor and modify as appropriate all allocation steps.
Coordinate, prepare and or assist in research and providing answers for all various requests: internal/ external audits, rate case and regulatory filings/audits, etc..
Serve as a resource for technical expertise, guidance, and assistance for questions and problems related to financial business management to all business partners, peers and teammates.
Business planning & oversight:
Coordinate the overall budget and business planning process (the annual budget development and long-range planning process). Including communication of budget guidance, assumptions, timeline, 5-year plans for O&M and Capital.
Coordinating review and preparation of annual budgets utilizing Hyperion Planning and Power Plan LRP.
Validate budgets uploaded to correct target amounts.
Develop and support department budget, strategic plan and related business planning presentation materials.
Work closely with and at the direction of appropriate management during the business planning process for input and dialogue on business plan and budget content.
Ensure accounting cost treatments and cash flows for the budgets loaded are accurate.
Governance and Oversight
Ensure adherence to GAAP and internal company financial policies and procedures (i.e. Capital Charging guidelines, etc.)
Effectively collaborate with Asset Accounting teams and CARG (Corporate Accounting Research Group) as needed to support appropriate cost treatment evaluations and project issue resolutions.
Ensure adherence to internal and external governance policies and procedures for supported business partners.
Facilitation/participation of Financial Oversight meetings (FOM) and any other meetings as needed.
Ensure timely communication and effective collaboration with business partners for inquiries/governance issues and to effectively resolve any issues in a timely manner.
Ensure requests from external/internal audits requests and data requests associated with any regulatory filings, rate case and or insurance claims are provided accurately and in a timely manner.
Maintain good working knowledge of accounting policies and impacts as required.

Provide effective leadership and resource management for our business partners and critical stakeholders including senior management, executive leaders, peers, and other members of the FP&A team.
