Job description

Shop Meter Specialist Job Summary

Location: Candidate must currently reside within a reasonable commuting distance from 62 Lake Mirror Road, Bldg. 2C, Forest Park, GA  30297 or be willing to relocate to this area.  Relocation benefits may be provided. This position comes with an assigned company vehicle. 

Job Summary:   Performs analysis to develop design options or recommendations for electrical metering system components.  Responsible for advanced troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating equipment to include electric meters, recorders, totalizers and computers. Responsible for the testing, analysis and warranty of High-End meters. Responsibility for data communication interfaces including hardline, AMI, Ethernet LAN/WAN and FW. This position directly supports core business functions related to ongoing operations in the product acceptance testing, communications protocols and high-end meter troubleshooting areas of an electrical meter shop.   

Other duties include: 

  • Responsible for the testing, analysis and warranty resolution of High-End electronic meters. 
  • Shop, Training and Engineering testing and applications support for an electrical metering department. 
  • Provides leadership and effective training on new technology used in Product Acceptance testing. 
  • Specialized training for Shop Metermen A and Field Meter Technicians. 
  • Hardware/software applications support related to product acceptance testing equipment. 
  • Meter and Instrument Transformer testing plan setup/development. 
  • Vendor resolution. 
  • Trouble shooting of meter systems including electronic meters, instrument transformers, data communication interfaces including AMI, Ethernet LAN/WAN and FW. 
  • Special Project Support of Shop and Engineering group in designing and constructing various adapters and apparatus used in different phases of ANSI qualification, certification and acceptance testing. 
  • Setting up equipment for conducting performance and accuracy tests, including the annual certification of all shop and field test equipment. 
  • Provide technical assistance for advanced electrical metering projects. 
  • Manage metering projects, direct Meter Tech and FMT work when supervisors are not present.  
  • Develops meter system options and cost estimates for project development. 
  • Provides classroom and on-the-job technical training on meter hardware, vendor software, and troubleshooting/diagnostic computer tools for Shop personnel. 
  • Provides technical direction on the planning and testing of meter systems. 
  • Installs, maintains, and tests communications equipment for metering systems 
  • The Meter Specialist is considered a "subject matter expert". 
  • Provide On and Off-site support of all Meter Shop activities.

Job Requirements   

Education: 2-year Technical Associate Degree/Certificate (or equivalent electrical/electronic experience)

 Experience Requirements

  • 5 years minimum experience in "Metermen Tech" classification, Preferred. 
  • Experience with installation, maintenance, testing of commercial and industrial meter systems and current meter technologies including AMI and solar applications. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities 
  • Thorough understanding of advanced commercial and industrial systems. 
  • Knowledge of installation and operations procedures for hardware and user applications, common business practices related to Metering Services, company operations, policies and procedures. 
  • Excellent communications skills. 
  • Excellent computer skills. 
  • Produce quality work within deadlines. 
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong leadership abilities with supervisory potential. 
  • Good organizational capabilities. 
  • Project Management skills. 
  • Ability to demonstrate safety as a priority.   
  • Aptitude to demonstrate all aspects of "Our Values". 

Other - Valid Drivers' license is required.   

This position has been identified as a role that will require the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle.  The following will be required if you are selected for this position:

Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver's license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver's license).

Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.

Must consent to a continuous monitoring of your Motor Vehicle Record
