Job description

Overview

SB Energy is a rapidly growing renewable energy company backed by SoftBank and Ares. Headquartered in Redwood City, CA, we develop, build, own, and operate some of the largest and most technically advanced energy and data‑center infrastructure projects in the United States. Our mission is to provide reliable, affordable energy at scale to support America’s growing energy demands.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the Ideation, Evaluation, Demonstration, and Deployment of innovations that push the bounds of the status quo in datacenters, including projects that accelerate datacenter speed‑to‑power, grid interconnection, bridge power solutions, construction automation and modularity, and other initiatives.
  • Engage with multiple business units, executives, and partners to set strategic direction and make business decisions.
  • Gather requirements from potential customers, engineering and construction companies, equipment manufacturers, financiers, and subject‑matter experts.
  • Develop commercialization strategy including business model, partnerships, and intellectual property.
  • Identify and retire risks and use SB Energy’s Innovation Center for real‑world technology demonstrations.
  • Assist first‑of‑a‑kind deployment into commercial projects and support operational phases to ensure success.
  • Lead the development and introduction of innovative technologies, collaborating across business units.
  • Prepare and give presentations to innovation stakeholders and executives.
  • Increase the visibility and reputation of SB Energy’s innovation initiatives through whitepapers, conferences, and marketing content.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and enable up to 25% domestic travel.
Job Qualifications
  • Minimum eight (8) years of professional experience in commercializing new products, with strong preference for experience in datacenters or similar mission‑critical infrastructure.
  • B.S. in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited university or other technical degree; advanced degrees are a plus.
  • Direct experience developing, demonstrating, and deploying hardware and software technologies; experience with supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems is a plus.
  • Demonstrated strong engineering, commercialization, and communication skills, and the ability to work in a dynamic team environment to solve problems creatively.
  • Ability to translate highly technical concepts into actionable insights for executive audiences.
  • Proficiency in quantifying the value of new technologies and prioritizing focus.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Detail oriented, self‑starter, and ownership of ambiguity.
Location

Strong preference for Denver, CO or the San Francisco Bay Area, CA. Remote work is possible for the right candidate.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary range: $160,000 – $190,000. Compensation may include discretionary annual bonus and a comprehensive health and wellness benefits package. Final details are discussed during the hiring process.
