This position is for the role of Mechanical Engineer on the Midwest Regulated & Renewable Energy (RRE) - Engineering Team in the Midwest. This role will support resolution of technical issues and perform engineering design for a diverse mix of generation including coal, natural gas, hydro, and solar facilities. This role will provide engineering support, focusing on power plant systems and equipment at the generating stations within the region. The Engineer III provides consultation, technical support, inspections, testing and training to maintain or improve the technical integrity and safety of the equipment related to their area of expertise.
The Engineer III position is the advanced level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer III position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with limited supervision. An Engineer III is expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer III effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is progressively complex and varied.
Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity,
Contributes to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities,
Deals with changing priorities and differing situations and makes decision that may affect the work of the team,
Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to well-defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity,
Conducts engineering and related studies
Completes routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with increasing ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; increasingly competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems,

Facilitate MER Meetings to review risk items and develop scope and budget recommendations for future inspections.
Collaborate with COSO and Station/Plant Engineers to initiate project requests in PowerPlan long range planning
Support Risk Grid items with Station/Plant Engineer and Technical Manager for entry to the Station Risk Grid.
Provide technical oversight and support station operations, maintenance, and Implementation Managers for emergent technical requests, outages, and projects
Document inspection findings and provide Station/Plant Engineer and/or COSO prioritized repair recommendations
Basic Qualifications
Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience
A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.
Desired Qualifications
Mechanical Engineering degree from an ABET accredited program
Experience with Power Plant or industrial mechanical equipment.
Experience with steam generators, coal/natural gas/fuel oil boilers and combustion equipment
Knowledge and experience with mechanical systems and equipment - pumps, compressors, turbines, fans, valves
Mechanical piping and systems (BPVC, ASME Section I, Section VIII, B31.1 Power Piping) - design, operations, and maintenance
Safety/relief valve maintenance and compliance requirements
Metallurgical and welding knowledge including testing, NDE, and QA/QC
CBM knowledge - flow testing, tribology, vibration analysis
Registered Professional Engineer.
Previous work experience providing engineering services for the utility industry.
Previous work experience at a power generation facility.
Proficient in principles of project management.
Capable of learning quickly, working independently and in a team environment.
Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adapt to constant changing work needs and priorities.
Demonstrated experience showing familiarity and knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
Demonstrated ability to effectively handle multiple assignments.

Work location for this position will be at Cayuga Generation Station. The hiring manager may elect to base this position at another Midwest generating facility (Gibson, Noblesville, Or Edwardsport) if the successful candidate is currently located at that facility.
