DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING


Join the leadership team at Cascade Hotel Kansas City, a Marriott Tribute Portfolio Hotel, and Aloft Kansas City Country Club Plaza, a dual-branded hotel complex located in the heart of Kansas City's iconic Country Club Plaza. Together, these properties feature nearly 300 guest rooms, over 15,000 square feet of meeting and event space, multiple food and beverage outlets, and distinctive guest experiences that showcase the energy and culture of Kansas City.

We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead engineering and facility operations across both hotels. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, efficiency, and long-term preservation of our physical assets while supporting exceptional guest experiences and operational success.


Position Summary


The Director of Engineering provides strategic and hands-on leadership for all engineering, maintenance, and facility operations across the Cascade Hotel and Aloft Kansas City Country Club Plaza complex. This role oversees building systems, preventive maintenance programs, capital planning, vendor partnerships, life safety compliance, and engineering team development.


The successful candidate will be a highly skilled hotel engineering leader with strong technical knowledge, financial acumen, and the ability to balance daily operational needs with long-term asset protection and improvement strategies.


Key Responsibilities


Lead and develop Engineering operations across a dual-branded hotel complex, establishing clear expectations, accountability, and performance standards.

Recruit, train, coach, and retain a high-performing engineering team focused on safety, responsiveness, and operational excellence.

Foster a culture of ownership, urgency, continuous improvement, and exceptional service.

Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, kitchen equipment, laundry systems, and life safety systems.

Ensure all equipment, infrastructure, and hotel systems operate efficiently with minimal disruption to guests and operations.

Conduct routine inspections of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, mechanical rooms, and exterior areas to ensure brand and safety standards are maintained.

Develop, implement, and continuously improve comprehensive preventive maintenance programs across both properties.

Monitor maintenance performance, equipment reliability, and recurring issues to identify proactive solutions.

Protect the long-term value of hotel assets through disciplined maintenance practices and effective capital planning.

Develop and manage engineering budgets, including labor, utilities, contracts, supplies, and operational expenses.

Partner with ownership and hotel leadership on capital projects, renovations, repairs, and long-term facility improvements.

Manage vendor relationships, contractor performance, and service agreements to ensure quality workmanship and cost effectiveness.

Serve as the property Life Safety leader, ensuring compliance with Marriott standards, local regulations, and safety requirements.

Maintain accurate documentation including maintenance logs, inspections, warranties, permits, and compliance records.

Support emergency preparedness efforts and ensure engineering team readiness for operational disruptions.

Collaborate with Rooms, Food & Beverage, Security, and leadership teams to support guest satisfaction and overall hotel performance.

Ensure appropriate engineering coverage, preventative maintenance execution, and on-call support.

Serve as Manager on Duty as assigned.

Perform additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Required:


Minimum 5 years of progressive engineering leadership experience within a full-service hotel environment.

Previous experience as a Director of Engineering, Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, or similar leadership role.

Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, mechanical, and life safety systems.

Demonstrated ability to lead engineering teams and manage complex hotel operations.

Experience managing budgets, forecasting, expense control, and capital projects.

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to prioritize multiple projects while maintaining operational excellence.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with ownership, executive leadership, associates, and vendors.


Preferred:


Marriott brand experience.

Experience supporting dual-branded, multi-property, or complex hotel environments.

Experience in lifestyle, luxury, or high-service hospitality operations.

Experience with renovations, capital improvements, and major building systems projects.

Technical certifications or relevant licenses.


Schedule Requirements


Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency on-call responsibilities as business needs require.

Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the position.

Hotel operations run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
