Position Summary Information
Responsibilities
International Student Services is a division of the DSU Student Success Center. The International Admissions Specialist is a full-time, 12-month position that reports to the Coordinator of International Student Services. This position works closely with the International Assistant Advisor, campus constituencies, and other team members in the Student Success Center.
Responsibilities:
Assist international applicants, update applicant checklists, correspond with applicants regarding necessary document corrections; Review, code, and enter undergraduate and graduate admissions' documents into Banner; Assist applicants who require admissions' deferral due to personal or visa reasons; Maintain International admissions' email to ensure up-to-date, accurate information; Communicate regularly with active applicants and monitor inactive applications; Monitor international student records to ensure compliance with SEVIS/USCIS/F1 visa requirements and guidelines, including progress towards degree and required full-time enrollment status; Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) in SEVIS to create student accounts, issue, and maintain student I-20's, register students at beginning of each academic term, update employment, etc.; Maintain international student insurance policies by working closely with students, insurance provider and DSU Student Business Services to ensure timely insurance processing; Collaborate with team members to plan and implement strategies to increase international recruiting opportunities and to improve current international student retention and development; Supervise DSU student employees, including work-study, RSE, and graduate assistants; Coordinate special events, new student orientation, and current student check-in/check-out before/after holidays and breaks; Assist with on/off-campus employment/internship review and approval processing; Serve as Campus Coordinator for exchange programs through coordination with IREX and international exchange students; Follow guidelines with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) as they pertain to the students' rights to privacy and accuracy and retention of academic records; and, Perform other duties as assigned as related to international admissions and retention.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; 1-3 years of experience in higher education admissions preferred; Proficient in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, social media required; with Banner experience preferred; Demonstrated record of: Strong leadership, interpersonal and oral/written communication skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a changing, evolving department/Integrity and commitment to developing and maintaining the highest academic standards and working with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff/Plan and budget time wisely, be motivated and take initiative/Must be a United States citizen or have legal authorization to work in the United States.
