Job Description:
Dobbs Defense Solutions is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Backend / Drupal Developer to support a large-scale digital modernization and CMS transformation initiative. The ideal candidate will be responsible for backend Drupal configuration, content architecture, migration scripting, redirect implementation, and integration support throughout the discovery, build, migration, and launch phases of the project. This role requires strong technical expertise in Drupal backend development, experience supporting enterprise CMS implementations, and the ability to work within fast-paced public-sector environments.
Duties:
  • Perform Drupal CMS configuration including content types, views, blocks, workflows, and backend administration.
  • Design and configure content type structures to support editorial workflows and migration activities.
  • Execute taxonomy and menu API proof-of-concept activities to support information architecture planning.
  • Support content audit and migration mapping efforts by documenting and implementing content structures.
  • Author and maintain Drupal Migrate API scripts for large-scale content migrations.
  • Provide manual content and page migration support as needed during implementation.
  • Implement and validate server-side 301 redirects to ensure seamless legacy-to-modernized site transitions.
  • Support backend integrations using REST APIs, JSON:API, and custom Drupal services.
  • Configure accessibility-related backend support including semantic markup, alt text handling, and ARIA attribute implementation.
  • Resolve backend defects identified during QA, accessibility testing, UAT, and production verification.
  • Provide backend technical documentation, governance artifacts, and integration design documentation.
  • Participate in deployment readiness and hyper-care support activities post-launch.
  • Collaborate with UX, frontend, content strategy, infrastructure, and project management teams throughout the engagement lifecycle.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred.
  • Minimum 4+ years of Drupal backend development experience.
  • Strong proficiency with PHP 8+ development.
  • Experience using Drupal Migrate API for enterprise content migration initiatives.
  • Extensive experience configuring Drupal content types, Views, Blocks, and editorial workflows.
  • Experience implementing and managing enterprise-level 301 redirects at scale.
  • Experience supporting REST APIs, JSON:API integrations, and custom backend services.
  • Experience supporting WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility compliance within Drupal implementations.
  • Experience working in public-sector, healthcare, or government-regulated environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with Maryland DoIT deployment standards and HIPAA-aware workflows preferred.
  • Acquia Certified Backend Developer certification preferred.
  • Experience with Drupal core or contributed module development preferred.
