Experienced Laboratory Technician - Construction Materials Testing - Kennesaw, Georgia

What are we looking for?
The Laboratory Technician performs laboratory testing of construction materials in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, GDOT, and project specifications. This position is responsible for producing accurate test results, maintaining laboratory equipment, documenting testing activities, and supporting quality control efforts while working both independently and as part of a team.

What you'll do:

  • Perform laboratory testing on soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, grout, masonry, and other construction materials
  • Prepare, sample, and test materials in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, GDOT, and project specifications
  • Accurately document, calculate, and report test results
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper calibration and cleanliness
  • Assist with quality assurance and quality control procedures
  • Review laboratory data for completeness and accuracy
  • Coordinate with field technicians, project managers, and clients regarding testing schedules and sample status
  • Maintain laboratory inventory and testing supplies
  • Follow all company safety policies and laboratory procedures
  • Assist with special testing projects and other laboratory duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED required
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record (required)
  • Previous experience working in a Construction Materials Testing (CMT) laboratory
  • Strong understanding of ASTM, AASHTO, and/or GDOT testing procedures
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations and accurately record test data
  • Strong computer and organizational skills
  • Ability to read project plans, specifications, and testing requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities
  • Willingness to work overtime as project demands require


Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull 30-50 pounds; occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance
  • Stand for extended periods while performing laboratory testing
  • Bend, kneel, squat, and reach throughout the workday
  • Ability to distinguish colors, measurements, and detailed testing observations
  • Ability to safely operate laboratory testing equipment


Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology or related field is a plus
  • Two or more years of Construction Materials Testing laboratory experience preferred
  • The following certifications are preferred:
    • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I
    • ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician
    • ACI Aggregate Testing Technician
    • ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician (preferred)
    • GDOT Roadway Testing Technician (RTT), Soil Technician, or related certifications preferred.
  • Experience with laboratory quality management systems and construction materials testing software.
