Job description

Luhr Crosby, LLC is seeking experienced and inexperienced Deckhands!
The Deckhand is responsible for building and breaking tow as directed by the Master or his relief while maintaining a clean and orderly vessel and barge.
Responsibilities include:
Making up the tow
Dropping, spotting, and switching barges at docks
Assisting the vessel and tow in making locks and standing lookout as needed
Performing the various tasks necessary to conduct the above, such as making a coupling, operating winches and ratchets, and line handling, including splicing and throwing lines
Make up bad order barge reports that are picked up in tow
General maintenance of boats and barges, including painting. Other equipment maintenance as needed
Cleaning or scouring the boat including personal quarters, wheelhouse, galley, head and companionways or other cleaning chores
Other duties as directed by the Master or his relief
Required Qualifications:
2+ years prior deckhand experience
Ability to work away from home for extended periods (28-day hitch)
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to respond quickly in unexpected circumstances
Demonstration of critical thinking and decision-making skills
Effective communication within all levels of the organization
Ability to demonstrate teamwork and acceptance of diversity
Must be able to read and write the English language to comply with USCG regulatory requirements
Must obtain a valid TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
Pass a post-offer process if an offer is made (background check, drug screen, and physical)
Physical Demands:
Required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers to grip, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear
Perform frequent heavy lifting including lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying
Ability to work in confined spaces and near or on large bodies of water
Ability to climb a ladder and able to board and ride in a skiff
Work is performed in an uncontrolled environment. Exposure to harsh conditions such as noise, varying weather conditions and temperatures for short periods of time is possible. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear personal protective equipment in designated areas
