Job description

Assistant Professor of Unmanned Aerial Systems

College of Science Engineering and Technology at Texas Southern University is accepting applications for a tenureโ€‘track Assistant Professor of Unmanned Aerial Systems, competent in instructing students with an active research agenda. A terminal degree (Ph.D.) with emphasis in Aviation, Drone Technology or Aeronautical Engineering from a regionally accredited university, and a supplemental field in Aviation Management or Drone Technology is required. This is a 9โ€‘month tenureโ€‘track position with teaching responsibilities at undergraduate and/or graduate levels.

Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Unmanned Aerial Systems
  • Conduct research suitable for professional academic conferences and publication in peerโ€‘reviewed journals
  • Active participation in departmental, school, and university committees
  • Service to the profession and surrounding community
  • Advise and mentor students
  • Other jobโ€‘related duties as assigned
Qualifications

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Aviation, Drone Technology or Aeronautical Engineering from a regionally accredited university at time of hire
  • Supplemental field in Unmanned Aerial Systems/UAV or Aeronautical Engineering

Required Licensing/Certification:

  • FAA Part 107 License (required)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of: Policies, procedures, and practices; proficiency in FAA Part 107 operations; current software and applications in GIS and data processing
  • Skill in: Detail oriented; effective customer service; problemโ€‘solving and decisionโ€‘making; multitasking and time management; verbal and written communication
  • Ability to: Work with a diverse student population; maintain involvement in appropriate professional organizations

Work Experience:

Active research agenda as evidenced by at least one peerโ€‘reviewed journal publication at time of hire preferred.
