What is a Drone Photogrammetry job?

A Drone Photogrammetry job involves using drones equipped with cameras and sensors to capture aerial images and generate precise 2D maps or 3D models. Professionals in this role process the collected data using specialized software to analyze terrain, structures, and landscapes. This technology is widely used in industries such as construction, agriculture, surveying, and environmental monitoring. The job requires knowledge of drone operation, photogrammetric software, and geospatial analysis. Strong attention to detail and technical skills are essential for producing accurate and reliable results.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Drone Photogrammetry position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Drone Photogrammetry, you need expertise in aerial drone operation, image capture, photogrammetric data processing, and a background in GIS, surveying, or related fields. Familiarity with software such as Pix4D, Agisoft Metashape, or DroneDeploy, along with relevant FAA drone pilot certification (Part 107) is typically required. Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and communication skills are important for accurate data collection and effective client interaction. These competencies are crucial for producing high-quality geospatial data and ensuring project success in surveying, construction, and environmental monitoring applications.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a Drone Photogrammetry specialist?

Freelance Job Posting: Reality Capture

Specialist (LiDAR & Drone)

Company: M Hudson Design, Inc.

Location: South Florida (On-site required for capture)

Position Type: Freelance / Independent Contractor (Project-Based)

About M Hudson Design

M Hudson Design (MHD) is a premier, ultra-luxury landscape architecture firm based in West

Palm Beach, Florida. We are pioneering the worldโ€™s first fully integrated experiential

design process. We don't just show our clients 2D plans; we build immersive, cinematic 3D

digital twins of their future estates, allowing them to experience their homes before ground

is ever broken.

We are seeking a highly skilled Reality Capture Specialist to serve as the critical first step

in our design pipeline. You will be responsible for capturing the existing real-world

conditions of ultra-luxury estates and translating them into pristine digital data.

The Role

As our Reality Capture Specialist, you will conduct field visits to high-end residential

properties across South Florida. Your primary objective is to capture the site using

advanced LiDAR scanning and drone photogrammetry, and then process that data into

clean, highly accurate 3D point clouds and meshes.

Your deliverables are the foundation upon which our entire 3D architectural and landscape

design process is built. Precision, professionalism, and speed are paramount.

Key Responsibilities

โ€ข Field Capture: Independently travel to ultra-luxury project sites in South Florida to

conduct comprehensive site surveys.

โ€ข LiDAR Scanning: Operate terrestrial LiDAR equipment (e.g., Leica BLK360 or similar) to

capture millimeter-accurate scans of existing architecture, hardscapes, and critical

topography.

โ€ข Drone Photogrammetry: Pilot enterprise-level drones (e.g., DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise,

Matrice series) to capture high-resolution aerial imagery and video for photogrammetry

and Gaussian Splatting workflows.

โ€ข Data Processing: Stitch, register, and clean raw LiDAR and drone data using industrystandard

software (e.g., RealityCapture, Leica Cyclone, or RealityScan).

โ€ข Deliverable Handoff: Export and deliver clean point clouds (.las, .e57) and 3D meshes

(.obj, .fbx) to our remote 3D modeling team via our cloud server (BIM 360 / Google Drive)

within strict 48-72 hour turnaround windows.

โ€ข Professional Representation: Act as a representative of MHD on-site, maintaining the

highest level of professionalism and discretion around ultra-high-net-worth clients and

their properties.

Required Skills & Qualifications

โ€ข Hardware Ownership: Must own or have reliable access to professional-grade

terrestrial LiDAR equipment and a commercial mapping drone.

โ€ข Licensing: Active FAA Part 107 Commercial Drone Pilot License is strictly required.

โ€ข Software Proficiency: Expert-level experience in photogrammetry and point cloud

processing software (RealityCapture preferred).

โ€ข Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of coordinate systems, survey control,

point cloud registration, and mesh decimation.

โ€ข Portfolio: Must provide a portfolio or examples demonstrating previous reality capture

work, specifically involving complex outdoor environments, vegetation, and residential

architecture.

โ€ข Location: Must be locally based in South Florida with reliable transportation to travel to

sites ranging from Miami to Jupiter.

Bonus Qualifications (Nice to Have)

โ€ข Experience processing data specifically for Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) workflows (e.g.,

Luma AI, Polycam).

โ€ข Familiarity with capturing 360-degree ground photography (e.g., Insta360).

โ€ข Previous experience working on luxury residential construction or architectural projects.
