What is a drone delivery?

A Drone Delivery job involves operating, monitoring, and maintaining drones to transport goods from a distribution center to customers or businesses. Responsibilities may include piloting drones, ensuring regulatory compliance, conducting pre-flight checks, and troubleshooting technical issues. Operators often work with logistics teams to optimize delivery routes and ensure safe, efficient deliveries. Some roles may also require obtaining FAA Part 107 certification or equivalent credentials, depending on local regulations.

What does a typical day look like for someone working in drone delivery?

A typical day in drone delivery involves pre-flight checks, planning and setting delivery routes, operating drones to transport packages, and performing post-flight maintenance and reporting. You’ll work closely with logistics coordinators, dispatch teams, and sometimes with clients to ensure smooth and timely deliveries. The role may require adjusting to changing weather or last-minute route changes, so adaptability is important. In most organizations, you’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to safety protocols and process improvements, expanding your technical and teamwork skills over time.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the drone delivery position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Drone Delivery role, you need a strong understanding of UAV operation, navigation, and logistics, often supported by an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification or equivalent. Familiarity with flight planning software, GPS navigation systems, and drone maintenance tools is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication help candidates manage challenges and coordinate with team members. These abilities are essential for ensuring safe, timely, and compliant delivery operations in dynamic environments.

Do drone delivery operators get paid well?

Drone delivery operators typically earn wages comparable to other delivery or logistics roles, with pay varying based on experience, location, and employer. Many positions offer hourly wages or salary, and some require certifications or training in drone operation. Overall, compensation is generally considered moderate and depends on the complexity of the delivery tasks and the operator's skills.

About You and The Role

We're looking for a highly organized, hands-on Partner Onboarding Specialist to help restaurant partners successfully launch and operate drone delivery. In this role, you'll own the partner onboarding experience from initial handoff through launch and early operations. You'll work directly with restaurant owners, managers, and frontline teams to prepare each location for drone delivery, train staff on new workflows, coordinate operational and technical requirements, and ensure every partner is ready to deliver a great customer experience from day one. This role sits at the intersection of operations, technology, logistics, and partner success. The ideal candidate is comfortable working directly with partner teams, solving operational problems in real time, and helping partners adopt a new way of fulfilling delivery orders.

What You'll Do
Restaurant Onboarding & Launch
  • Own the onboarding process for new partners from kickoff through successful launch.
  • Manage launch plans, timelines, readiness requirements, and partner communications.
  • Coordinate restaurant setup and ensure operational requirements are completed before go-live.
  • Conduct restaurant readiness assessments and identify potential launch blockers.
  • Partner with internal teams to coordinate technical, operational, and delivery requirements.
  • Support restaurant teams during launch and resolve issues quickly to ensure a smooth go-live. Training & Operational Readiness
  • Train owners, managers, and team members on drone delivery workflows and best practices.
  • Help partners integrate drone delivery into existing kitchen, order fulfillment, and handoff processes.
  • Educate restaurant teams on packaging, order preparation, staging, and loading requirements specific to drone delivery.
  • Ensure partner teams understand how to identify, escalate, and resolve common operational issues.

Partner Experience

  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for partners throughout onboarding and launch.
  • Build strong relationships with owners, operators, managers, and frontline employees.
  • Set clear expectations around launch requirements, timelines, and responsibilities.
  • Gather partner feedback and identify opportunities to make drone delivery easier for partner teams.
  • Provide additional support to partners during the early stages of operation before transitioning them to ongoing support teams.

Process Improvement & Scale Process Improvement & Scale

  • Keep onboarding trackers, restaurant information, and launch checklists accurate and up to date.
  • Follow established onboarding processes and ensure required steps are completed before launch.
  • Track open tasks and follow up with partners and internal teams to keep launches moving forward.
  • Identify common questions, issues, or delays during onboarding and share them with the team.
  • Gather feedback from partner managers and staff about their onboarding and launch experience.
  • Help update training materials, checklists, and onboarding resources as processes change.
  • Document restaurant-specific details and operational learnings for future reference.
  • Escalate launch blockers or operational issues to the appropriate team when needed.
  • Support multiple partner launches while maintaining strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Share observations and ideas that could make the onboarding experience easier for partners.
What You'll Bring
  • 2+ years of experience in operations, restaurant technology, partner onboarding, implementation, account management, logistics, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of restaurant operations and the realities of working in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple restaurant launches simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with restaurant owners, managers, and frontline employees.
  • Comfortable learning new technology and explaining technical or operational processes in simple terms.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues in real-world operating environments.
  • Willingness to spend significant time in the field working directly with partners.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and coordinate multiple stakeholders to get partners successfully launched. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with restaurant delivery, third-party delivery platforms, restaurant technology, POS systems, or last-mile logistics.
  • Experience launching new restaurant locations, products, or operational programs.
  • Experience implementing new technology or workflows.
  • Familiarity with delivery marketplaces and restaurant order fulfillment processes.
  • Experience working in a high-growth technology or operations environment.
  • Interest in autonomous delivery, robotics, aviation, or emerging logistics technologies.

What Success Looks Like

A successful Partner Onboarding Specialist makes adopting drone delivery feel simple for restaurant partners. Partners launch on time, managers and staff understand exactly how the service fits into their existing operations, and orders move smoothly from the kitchen into the drone delivery network. You'll help reduce the time and effort required to launch new restaurant partners while maintaining a high bar for operational quality. As the network grows, you'll turn what you learn in the field into repeatable processes that allow us to onboard more partners, launch new markets faster, and deliver a consistently excellent experience for partners and their customers.
