Drivers Night information

What is a drivers night?

Drivers Night are professional drivers who work during nighttime hours, transporting goods or passengers. These drivers often work late evening to early morning shifts, ensuring timely deliveries or safe travel during periods of lower traffic. Night driving can involve additional challenges such as fatigue, reduced visibility, and increased safety concerns. Employers may offer higher pay rates for night shifts to compensate for these demands. The role is crucial for industries that require 24/7 operations, like logistics, transportation, and ride-hailing services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a night driver?

To thrive as a Night Driver, you generally need a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and a solid understanding of road safety regulations. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, electronic logging devices, and sometimes specific vehicle certifications (such as CDL for truck drivers) is often required. Strong attention to detail, time management, and the ability to stay alert and focused during late hours are important soft skills. These competencies ensure safe, efficient, and reliable transportation services during nighttime shifts, minimizing risks and meeting delivery or passenger needs.

What are some common challenges faced by night shift drivers, and how can they be managed?

Night shift drivers often face challenges such as fatigue, reduced visibility, and lower traffic volumes, which can impact alertness and safety. To manage these, it’s important to maintain a consistent sleep schedule, take regular breaks, and use well-lit, familiar routes when possible. Many employers also provide safety training and encourage open communication with dispatchers to address any concerns during the shift. Adhering to company policies and prioritizing self-care are vital for staying safe and effective on the job.

Job description

Dedicated Night Routes Based Near Cocoa, FL
ASB Freight Co. is seeking experienced Class A CDL drivers for a dedicated refrigerated account operating from Central Florida into Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.
This position is best suited for drivers who prefer overnight driving and want a dedicated account with consistent freight and regular home time.
ROUTE & SCHEDULE
Drivers typically begin their routes in the late afternoon or evening, with start times generally ranging from approximately 3:00 PM-8:00 PM.
Depending on the assigned route, drivers may be:
  • Home nightly on some runs
  • Home approximately every other day
  • Home for a 34-hour restart
  • Away overnight when required by the route
  • Scheduled for weekend work

Drivers should expect most driving to take place during the evening and overnight hours.
This is a slip-seat operation, so applicants must be comfortable sharing assigned equipment between shifts.
DEDICATED REEFER FREIGHT
Drivers haul refrigerated freight for a dedicated customer to store locations throughout the operating area.
Routes primarily cover:
Central Florida • Georgia • South Carolina
Some runs may extend outside Florida depending on customer needs.
Drivers can expect:

  • Refrigerated trailers
  • Live unloads at delivery locations
  • Multiple-stop routes
  • Approximately 1,600-2,400 miles per week
  • Consistent year-round freight
COMPENSATION
This account uses a combination pay structure that includes:
  • $1,200-$1,300 per week.
  • Driver performance bonus opportunities

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THIS ACCOUNT
This may be a good fit for drivers who are comfortable with:
Night driving - most routes operate overnight.
Live unloads - deliveries require live unloading at each stop.
Weekend work - weekend availability is required.
Overnight runs - while some routes may allow nightly home time, drivers must be willing to stay out overnight when needed.
Slip seating - trucks are shared between drivers.
Flexibility is important due to late-afternoon/evening start times and changing freight needs.
