Job description

SMS Equipment is looking for an Equipment Sales Representative to manage the sale of new equipment within our domestic sales function. This role is responsible for driving territory growth, delivering equipment solutions, and building long-term, trusted customer relationships across the assigned region.
 
Work Location: Calgary, AB.
Salary: $40,000 plus commission, with a first-year earnings guarantee of $75,000 (base salary + guaranteed commission).
Work Arrangement: Fixed on site – working from the office or customer site each day. This role requires frequent travel within the assigned territory.
Schedule: Monday to Friday.
 
What You’ll Do
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships through regular site visits, clear communication, and a strong understanding of customer needs.
  • Manage your daily schedule, sales pipeline, and territory to meet deadlines and deliver on commitments.
  • Monitor market trends and collaborate with the Sales/Operations Manager to establish targets and support territory strategy.
  • Proactively generate leads, conduct cold calls, and close new equipment sales within the assigned territory.
  • Prepare equipment quotes and work closely with the General Manager of Sales to align pricing and commercial terms.
  • Maintain accurate customer, opportunity, and sales activity records within the CRM system.
What You Bring
The successful candidate will have prior sales experience and/or experience serving customers in the heavy equipment industry, with the ability to build relationships and manage a fast-paced sales territory.
 
Other requirements include:
  • Familiarity with a wide range of construction equipment and the ability to recommend appropriate equipment solutions.
  • Confidence in cold calling, developing new business, and balancing competing priorities.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems, quoting tools, and Microsoft Office, supported by strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively throughout the assigned territory.

This position is classified as an Individual Contributor role in SMS Equipment’s competency framework, requiring demonstration of core competencies (customer focus, collaboration, and technical/functional expertise).
