Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Driver Education Lead works directly with the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Department of Teaching and Learning to provide quality teen traffic safety education courses for students in the local and surrounding communities, ages 15 through 17. The Driver Education Lead is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Driver Education program, including scheduling and training of contracted driver education instructors, and is expected to be on-call to assist in emergency situations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Assist with the hiring and monitoring ofcertified driver education instructors.
    1. Track instructor certifications and required training.
    2. Monitor time and attendance, gather timesheets to ensure prompt payment for instructors.
    3. Participate in ongoing professional development and look forregular opportunities for continuing education to driver education instructors.
    4. Maintain a quarterly meeting schedule for instructors.
  2. Ensure ODOT compliance for the driver education program.
    1. Maintain records in accordance with Division 15 Administrative Rules.
    2. Monitor and adjust drive routes as needed to align with changes to the curriculum and maintain safety.
    3. Complete and submit state subsidy reimbursement requests to ODOT, quarterly.
    4. In collaboration with driving instructors, create and maintain lesson plans and routes that comply with ODOT expectations.
    5. Assist supervisor tocoordinate program audits with ODOT every two years.
  3. Responsible for program planning, course enrollment, and relevant communication.
    1. Assist with registration and payment for course enrollment.
    2. Maintain accurate data through the registration system and payment portal. Provide training to other staff members, as needed.
    3. Coordinate with the fiscal department to manage payments.
    4. Communicate regularly with supervisor, including participation in the preparation and monitoring of the budget. Update program fees, as needed.
    5. Establish quarterly driver education courses and assign driving schedules for driver instructors.
    6. Communicate course information and required ODOT public information through orientation meetings and the OCSD website.
    7. Order necessary curriculum and materials through ODOT.
  4. Establish and maintain community partnerships that support the driver education program. This includes, but is not limited to, partnership with Oregon City Police Department, Western Oregon University, Clackamas Community College, and local businesses.
  5. Maintain all vehicles assigned to the driver education program, including the arrangement of quarterly vehicle servicing.
  6. On-call for afternoon and weekend support in emergency situations.

  4. Skill in the use of designated software for documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and databases.
  5. Knowledge of general office procedures and the ability to maintain accurate and reliable records and data.
  6. Able to demonstrate professionalism in dress, speech and manner appropriate to the assignment and work setting.
  7. Able to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  8. Able to follow district policies and procedures at all times.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Successful leadership experience.
  3. Strong understanding and history of successful customer service and ability to establish and maintain effective relations with patrons and staff.
  4. Successful completion of criminal history records check, as required by law. 

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Bilingual Spanish/English.
  2. Experience working closely with community partners.
  3. Experience working for a public or private driver education program.
  4. Experience working in an office environment, including processing payments and/or billing.
