POSITION TITLE: Production Specialist II (PL2)
SHIFT TIMES AVAILIBLE:
NIGHT SHIFT (11:00PM - 7:30AM)
JOB PURPOSE:
Optical fiber manufacturing associate. Perform a wide variety of assignments including bench related work assignments and the operation of complex machines. Operate machines requiring limited interrelated adjustments with detailed procedures in manufacturing layouts, engineering specifications, similar operating procedures or work instructions, including but not limited to, inspection; basic care and cleaning of equipment and work area to ensure process efficiency and product quality. Test and inspect in-process and completed products. Perform material handling duties requiring the operation of all types of material handling equipment. Receive, store, stage and ship all types of materials and products. Work with maintenance, engineers or other support personnel to identify and to resolve equipment, process or product issues. Maintain work area organization/orderliness and cleanliness. Perform inspection, basic care and cleaning to include cleaning of equipment, limited equipment inspections and adjustments. Employees are expected to serve as role models for safe work practices and behaviors. This includes following established health and safety policies and procedures, maintaining a clean, organized work area, wearing, and properly storing all personal protective equipment (PPE) and actively engaging as a safety conscious worker with personal safety and wellness as a priority.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED: (MUST BE ABLE TO PROVIDE DOCUMENTATION OF EDUCATION)
High School GED or equivalent.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Prior manufacturing experience is preferred
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be able to work any shift or work schedule. Some technical school is desirable. Employees are expected to serve as role models for safe work practices and behaviors. This includes following established health and safety policies and procedures, maintaining a clean, organized work area, wearing, properly storing all personal protective equipment (PPE), and actively engaging as a safety conscious worker with personal safety and wellness as a priority.
DEPARTMENTS:
Vapor-Phase Axial Deposition (VAD)
This process creates silica based optical fiber preform rods, which eventually compose the glass, or core, within the fiber produced at the Norcross Facility. The entire VAD process is conducted in a "clean room" environment.
Product Specialist - Level 2
Having the functional capacity to perform efficiently in each job assignment in the VAD department is required.
The job assignments for the VAD Department include but aren't limited to the following:
  • VAD Making - LOWER LEVEL
  • VAD Making - UPPER LEVEL
  • VAD Processing - (R) FURNACE
  • VAD Processing - ELONGATION
  • RIT Tube/Rod Wash

FIBER DRAW
Draw machines are designed to draw large cylinders of glass (94mm-150mm diameter that weigh approx. 90lbs-200lbs) into optical fiber (125-micron diameter). During this process, a thin layer of coating material is applied to the glass fiber via a die and cured by passing it through a UV light source. The fiber is wound onto a large metal cylindrical spool as it is being drawn.
Product Specialist - Level 2
Having the functional capacity to perform efficiently and safely in each job assignment in the Draw Department is required. The job assignments for the Draw Department include but aren't limited to the following:
  • Upper-Level Material Handling (including operation of the overhead crane)
  • Upper-Level Preform Loading/Chucking (including operation of the personnel lift)
  • Lower-Level Material Handling (including operation of the preform chute lift)
  • Lower-Level Mezzanine
  • Lower-Level 1

POST DRAW
Rewind machines are designed to rewind and proof test draw spools. The Measurement positions are split into several test set stations. These tests overall measure fiber quality and performance. The Fiber Sales job consists of scanning, attaching and boxing final product spools. The Ink Room job consists of managing Post Draw's ink supply to ensure that the colors/types of ink needed are ready at the correct times
Product Specialist - Level 2
Having the functional capacity to perform efficiently and safely in each job assignment in the Post Draw Department is required. The job assignments for the Post Draw Department include but aren't limited to the following:
  • Rewind/UV
  • Measurements
  • Fiber Sales
  • Ink Room

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Having the functional capacity to perform efficiently and safely in each job assignment required. Perform a wide variety of bench and assembly work. Operate machines requiring limited interrelated adjustments with detailed procedures in manufacturing layouts, engineering specifications, or similar operating procedures. Assist in the loading, unloading, string-up, set-up, and operation of complex machines. Test and inspect in-process and completed products. Perform material handling duties requiring the operation of all types of material handling equipment. Receive, store, stage and ship all types of materials and products. Communicate and instruct other Level 2 employees. Perform work assignment and coordinating duties for a group of Level 2 employees. Perform other duties as assigned.
