Description

Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer

Department: Engineering

Reports To: Manufacturing Engineering Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt/ Salary

Supervise the work of others: No

Position Summary:

This person will work to improve production quality & throughput; while also troubleshooting current manufacturing equipment in use.  Position will require working closely with design engineers to transfer new products and product improvements into manufacturing. This person is also responsible for optimizing current and new manufacturing processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This list is not comprehensive but meant to represent the most common or important duties of the position.  Other duties are required and/or assigned.

Designing and creating new assembly/test fixtures and inspection gauges

Hands on troubleshooting of current manufacturing equipment

Training and working closely with production associates

Communicating and working with the engineering design team

Creatively and quickly thinking of new ideas to implement and improve processes

Creating operator work instructions for new equipment and processes being implemented

Investigating new equipment purchases and preparing ROI presentations to justify purchases

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum of a 2 year associate's degree is required, 4 year bachelor's degree preferred.

Ideal candidate should have some experience design and/or troubleshooting automated or semi-automated manufacturing equipment.

Familiarity with pneumatics, solenoids, and some PLC programming highly beneficial.

Candidate should have experience creating and maintaining 2D part/assembly drawings, with at least a general understanding of drawing and tolerancing standards

Experience using Solidworks 3D modeling software is a plus; it will be used in fixtures, gauges and equipment design.

Must be able to operate electrical hand tools and general hand tools. Lathe or Mill Machine experience is preferred. CNC Machine experience is a plus.

Experience working in a closely monitored clean environment is a plus

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, vendors, non-engineers and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Knowledge of modern business communication, office procedures and methods.  Skills to use a personal computer and various software packages such as Microsoft Office Suite.  Ability to establish priorities, work independently with minimal supervision, and facilitate teamwork.

Equipment Used:

Telephones, computer, other office equipment as needed, electrical and general hand tools, CNC machinery, Lathe or Mill Machine operation.
