Job Overview
The Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) at Dow Rummel works under the supervision of Charge Nurses to deliver high-quality nursing care to residents. This role involves implementing specific job responsibilities, coordinating work within the department and with other teams, reporting pertinent information to supervisors, and providing essential support to department operations.
WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Support Dow Rummels commitment to safe practices, infection control, and residents' rights actively.
• Provide quality nursing care in an environment that upholds residents' rights, dignity, freedom of choice, and individuality.
• Maintain and improve residents' optimal level of functioning and nursing rehabilitation.
• Contribute to the care planning process by providing specific information and observations of residents' needs and preferences.
• Offer personal care assistance to residents in line with their individual care requirements.
• Maintain residents' comfort, privacy, and dignity in service delivery.
• Act as an advocate for the resident Bill of Rights, ensuring understanding by residents and their families.
• Assist in maintaining a safe, neat, and clean environment, promptly reporting environmental deficiencies.
• Protect residents' personal belongings and promptly report missing items according to established policies.
• Respond to residents' call lights promptly and courteously; report any abnormal findings or complaints to the Charge Nurse.
• Perform various tasks assigned by the charge nurse, including vital signs checks, weighing residents, and specimen collection.
• Assist in orienting residents and their families to the nursing home during admissions and transfers.
• Utilize the Buddies Forever Dementia Communications skills and Intervention.
• Demonstrate proper body mechanics or lifting devices when lifting, transferring, and transporting residents.
• Communicate clearly and tactfully with residents, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
• Assist and escort residents for appointments and participate in activities and functions as directed.
• Practice careful and efficient use of supplies and linen, following established charge procedures.
• Complete certified nursing assistant records documenting care provided in accordance with department policies.
• Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to all infection control procedures
What You’ll Bring
Required: Successfully completed coursework and examinations to obtain South Dakota Board of Nursing, Certified Nurse Assistant, certification.
• Experience in senior living or long-term care (preferred)
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to lift 50 lbs, push/pull 60 lbs, and carry 15 lbs with two hands
• Strong communication and attention to detail
• Must be able to pass a drug test, have a clear background check and current TB clearance required
• Calm, caring presence with a resident-first mindset
