Dow has an exciting job opportunity as an Operator located in Hayward, CA. The Dow Hayward Site is part of the Dow Coating Materials business, producing paint, adhesives, and other products.
About you and this role:
As an operator, you are responsible for transferring our product around the plant. You run our water treatment facilities, too. You'll operate equipment including pumps, valves, filters, and instrumentation. You'll occasionally troubleshoot and repair failed equipment, so you need to be a good problem-solver. You play a key role in the production of our product. You can work with a team, but you are always accountable for your own productivity. Are you looking for a job you can grow in? Required Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, 4-on-4-off, alternating days/nights
  • Must be willing to work overtime and holidays as needed
  • Current, valid US driver's license (required to operate yard trucks)
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process

This role requires the candidate to meet one of the following criteria:
  • An associate's degree in Process Technology, OR
  • A minimum of 3 years manufacturing experience, OR
  • A minimum of 6 months coatings manufacturing experience, OR
  • 3 years or more of relevant military training/experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Process Technician Certification, relevant Associate degree, or military experience is preferred
  • Chemical manufacturing experience is preferred
  • Control system experience (e.g. Siemens, DeltaV, etc.)
  • Aspen Process Explorer experience
  • Fork truck or forklift certification
  • Mechanical, maintenance, or heavy machinery experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel

Your Skills:
  • Communication: The job requires strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with team members and communicate operating errors proactively
  • Time Management: The role involves strong multi-tasking and time management skills to handle various responsibilities and complete training goals in a timely manner
  • Mechanical Aptitude: The job includes operating and monitoring process equipment, performing minor repairs, and having mechanical, maintenance, or heavy machinery experience
  • Process Safety: The position emphasizes working safely, following safety procedures, and participating in root cause investigations to identify preventative actions after unplanned events
  • Adaptability: Ability to proactively fill gaps in personal skills and knowledge, mentor and train others, and identify improvement opportunities

Physical Demands
Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:
  • Wearing safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, safety shoes and respirators
  • Performing frequent bending, reaching, and lifting,
  • Working in tight or closed-in spaces
  • This role does involve elevated work greater than or equal to four feet above the ground. Must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment (PPE), including harnesses with a total weight capacity of 300lbs.
  • Standing or walking for extended periods of time
  • Maneuvering drums and powder bags using available ergonomic assistance equipment

For positions based in California, Dow is required by law to include the pay scale that is reasonably expected to represent the salary range for the position. This salary range is specific to the State of California and accounts for both new and experienced employees with consideration to factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, and sustained job performance (or similar jobs).
A reasonable hourly base salary range for this position is: $25.15- $42.00. For those employees who are eligible for overtime pay, payment will be made under the provisions of federal and state law (typically, 1.5X of your regular hourly rate).
This position offers a variable, yearly bonus based on company performance with an additional individual performance factor.
