Description
The Dougherty County Public Works department is hiring on a continuous for an Equipment Operator. The purpose of this position is to operate heavy equipment used by the departments of Environmental Control and Public Works to perform minor preventative maintenance.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences
Essential Tasks
โ€ข Maintains and operates one or more of the following types of vehicles or equipment: buses, front-end loaders, tractors, mowers, dump trucks, backhoes, boom trucks, motor graders, track loaders, excavators, lowboys, bulldozers, spray trucks, and sweepers.
โ€ข Keeps logs and files reports, as required.
โ€ข Operates heavy equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
โ€ข Provides Park maintenance, to include mowing, edging, weeding, blowing walking trails off, tree & limb removal, plumbing, carpentry, irrigation repairs, concrete work, playground equipment maintenance, and maintain pond levels.
โ€ข Assists building shoulders on the roadways, along with any other type of road construction work necessary.
โ€ข Assists in directing traffic on worksites.
โ€ข Preventative Maintenance on mowers and small equipment.
โ€ข Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualification
โ€ข High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
โ€ข Two (2) years of experience operating light equipment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Supplemental Information
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
โ€ข Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
