Doormen are professionals typically employed at the entrances of residential buildings, hotels, or upscale establishments to greet residents and guests, provide security, and assist with various tasks such as opening doors, handling packages, and calling taxis. They serve as the first point of contact and help maintain the safety and comfort of the building's occupants. In addition to offering hospitality, doormen often monitor who enters and exits the premises, enhancing security and making the environment more welcoming.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a doorman, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Doorman, you need strong customer service skills, physical fitness, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with security systems, intercoms, and visitor management software is commonly required. Excellent communication, discretion, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential soft skills for this role. These qualities are crucial to ensure safety, provide a welcoming environment, and efficiently manage building access for residents and guests.

What does a doorman do?

As a doorman, you are in charge of greeting people coming and going from the residence or business where you work. You may be asked to hail a cab or to help with luggage or packages, should a guest or resident need assistance. You also are to be vigilant and ensure that only the people who belong in your building are coming and going. Doormen should be friendly and easy to talk to yet professional at all times.

What are some common challenges faced by a doorman and how can they be addressed?

Continuous training on conflict resolution and safety procedures can further enhance a doorman's ability to handle these situations professionally.
