What is a door gunner?

Door gunners are military personnel responsible for operating machine guns mounted in the doors or windows of helicopters and other aircraft. Their primary role is to provide suppressive fire and protection for the aircraft and its occupants during missions such as troop transport, medical evacuation, and search and rescue. Door gunners must be highly trained in weapon operation, aircraft safety protocols, and situational awareness to effectively support their team and mission objectives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a door gunner?

To thrive as a Door Gunner, you need strong marksmanship, situational awareness, physical fitness, and typically completion of military training specific to aviation and weapons operation. Proficiency with mounted machine guns, night vision devices, radio communication systems, and knowledge of aircraft safety protocols are essential. Attention to detail, teamwork, and the ability to stay calm under pressure are critical soft skills for this high-stress role. These skills and qualities are vital to ensure mission success, crew safety, and effective aircraft defense in combat situations.

Winner of multiple awards including GAF’s Cutting Edge Contractor Award 2023 & DaVinci Masterpiece Contractor Project of the Year 2023 along with Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies 2024, & Inc. Our people are aided by an experience that enables customers to easily purchase roofing online. This blend of traditional craftsmanship and digital ease underscores our dedication to an exceptional customer experience.

What part will you play?
  • As a Roofing Project Manager at Gunner, you’ll be the driving force behind every remodeling project once it’s sold. You’ll oversee all aspects of execution, ensuring contracts are delivered flawlessly, on time, and to the highest standard. Acting as the on-site leader, you’ll manage subcontractors, safeguard quality, ensure safety compliance, and deliver a remarkable customer experience from start to finish — with minimal supervision and maximum impact. You own the homeowner relationship from the first walkthrough to the final handshake. You are the person they call, and the reason they refer us to a neighbor.
What will you do?
  • Serve as the on-site expert, leader, and primary communicator for assigned projects.
  • Coordinate with dispatch, procurement, and customer success teams to keep projects running smoothly.
  • Supervise and lead subcontractors and crews — ensuring safety, teamwork, discipline, and high-quality workmanship.
  • Review and understand the project scope and specifications before work begins.
  • Track and verify material and equipment deliveries, reporting discrepancies to procurement.
  • Advice customers on potential scope changes and process change orders directly.
  • Ensure OSHA compliance and adherence to all applicable regulations.
  • Monitor and inspect installation quality throughout each project.
  • Communicate proactively and effectively with both customers and internal teams at every stage.
  • Own escalations personally. When something goes wrong on a job, you are the one who calls the homeowner first, explains it plainly, and makes it right.
  • Use technical knowledge, attention to detail, and customer service skills to start, run, and close projects on time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Compensation
  • Base Salary: $90,000 - $120,000
  • Two-week onboarding program
  • American Express for business expenses
  • Company Gas Card
  • Company Vehicle, including insurance and fuel coverage
  • 2+ years in construction project management or site supervision with direct customer interaction.
  • Hands-on experience in residential construction; experience with roofing, siding, and/or window and door installation is ideal.
  • Proven ability to deliver 5-star experiences to clients.
  • A track record of being the person a homeowner calls: de-escalating problems, recovering a job that went sideways, and turning a frustrated customer into a referral.
  • Strong skills in guiding teams, enforcing standards, and managing performance.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace and DocuSign.
  • Ability to manage schedules using a digital calendar.
  • Understanding of contracts, subcontracts, and terms & conditions.
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, resourceful, and comfortable working with ambiguity.
  • Professional demeanor and presentation.
  • OSHA certifications.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, and demonstrated adherence to company safety standards.
  • Willingness to learn and grow with the company.
  • Ready to walk us through one specific job that went wrong and exactly what you said to the homeowner. We will ask, and it is the part of the interview that matters most.
  • 401(k): Company match after 6 months
  • United Healthcare (medical, dental, vision) with company contribution after 60 days
  • PTO: Unlimited plan after 60 days
