Donate Life is a national initiative in the United States dedicated to promoting organ, eye, and tissue donation. The organization works to educate the public about the importance of donation, encourage individuals to register as donors, and support donor families. Through campaigns and partnerships with healthcare professionals, Donate Life aims to increase the number of lives saved and improved through transplantation. Registering as a donor is a simple process that can make a profound difference in the lives of those in need.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an organ donation coordinator, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Organ Donation Coordinator, you need a background in healthcare or social work, strong knowledge of organ donation processes, and relevant certifications such as Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC). Familiarity with medical records systems, donor management software, and regulatory compliance standards is typically required. Exceptional communication, empathy, and crisis management skills are crucial for supporting donor families and collaborating with medical staff. These competencies ensure ethical, effective coordination of organ donations, maximizing positive outcomes for recipients and donor families.

They regularly engage with diverse communities, requiring excellent communication skills and empathy to build trust and encourage registration. The work can be emotionally demanding, as it often involves supporting donor families and collaborating with medical teams, but it is also deeply rewarding. Team members typically collaborate with healthcare professionals, community leaders, and educators to increase awareness and drive participation in donation initiatives.

Job description

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Donate Life and/or Done Vida Arizona volunteer with Donor Network of Arizona (DNA). We have several different avenues of volunteer opportunities and would love to work with you. All of our volunteer activities contribute to DNAโ€™s mission: We make the most of life through the gift of organ and tissue donation.

Donate Life & Done Vida Arizona volunteers attend a wide range of events across our entire state to register Arizonans as organ and tissue donors through public education efforts. However, most of these events fall into one of three categories:

Registration Events - Attend events of all shapes and sizes to answer questions and provide an opportunity to register as an organ, tissue and eye donor.

Speaking Opportunities - If you have a donation story, share it with others in front of small groups, large groups or media! Virtual opportunities may be available.

Office Projects - Organize, count or sort. We couldnโ€™t be as effective as we are without an organized, behind-the-scenes crew. We need your help keeping our event materials in line and preparing for events!

Come to our next volunteer meeting to learn more! This meeting can be joined virtually or in person at our office. Our meetings are every other month and rotate between our Tucson and Tempe locations, but there is always a link to join virtually. Express interest to obtain the link to join virtually or the address. Or, if you're ready to get started right away complete a volunteer application here: https://dnaz.galaxydigital.com/user/register/

You'll be emailed a brief online volunteer orientation. Once complete, you'll be able to register for events on our website as your schedule allows.

Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions! Join us in our mission to make the most of the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.
