Job description

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES The Sugar Boiler assists with the operation of steam heated vacuum pans, batch cookers and crystallization to manufacture raw sugar during the harvest season by setting temperature and pressure gauges on cooking machines to produce sugar and performing related sugar boiling work as needed or assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: Provide leadership in the absence of the shift supervisor and coordinate the work of other employees to maintain smooth operations and meet production goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform all operations of the assigned vacuum pans.
Coordinate the operation of the assigned vacuum pans under the Raw Sugar Production Supervisor's instructions.
Control the development and growth of sugar crystals in the vacuum pans manually and/or by using instruments.
Discharge massecuite with uniform and proper size crystals.
Avoid false grains and/or conglomerates.
Achieve the correct purity and brix in the minimum time.
Operate computers that control the pans, including navigating through multiple screens.
Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards and performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have intermediate verbal, written and computers skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
  • Bilingual and Biliterate - English and Spanish, preferred.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma, GED (or equivalent experience), and at least three (3) year of experience in sugar fabrication processes and procedures.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regular attendance is required during your schedule shift.
  • Must be able to work in hot, cold, wet, humid, dusty, and foggy working conditions depending on weather.
  • Must be able to work in all positions (overhead, kneeling, reaching, crawling & working in small workspaces) & be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
