Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a Maritime Structural Engineering Lead for our New York, NY office.
As a Technical Lead you will work to lead project teams in developing a range of engineering solutions from the proposal and procurement stages, through initial concept and detailed design, and support roles during the construction phase. This is a diverse role that requires your contribution and insight to achieve effective delivery of its current portfolio of projects and bids for new work within an existing team of engineers.
You will be joining of a global team of 500+ maritime specialists who support a wide range of maritime development projects including container and offshore wind terminals, waterfront redevelopment, cruise and ferry terminals, marinas and harbors as well as coastal initiatives such as beach replacement and coastal protection.
The office has an established track record of successfully delivering maritime services to port owners/operators, contractors and transportation agencies as well as government agencies, international financial institutions and private developers.
This position demands a high level of expertise and commitment to excellence in maritime engineering. The core responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead the planning, design and delivery of complex structural projects across ports and marine infrastructure, ensuring technical excellence, commercial viability, and alignment with client expectations.
  • Act as a key client interface, building trusted relationships, providing strategic engineering advice, and supporting business growth through technical leadership and market insight.
  • Oversee multidisciplinary project teams, fostering collaboration to deliver integrated, innovative solutions that meet regulatory requirements, sustainability goals and agreed upon operational criteria.
  • Provide strategic technical direction for mentorship and development of engineering talent, promoting a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and professional growth within the team.
  • Ensure rigorous compliance with local and international maritime codes and standards, while proactively managing risk and safety considerations.
  • Champion quality, innovation, and thought leadership, contributing to industry standards through rigorous quality control, publications, and active participation in technical forums and conferences.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related field.
  • Twelve (12) plus years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education with a strong focus on ports, maritime, and coastal infrastructure projects.
  • Professional Engineering licensure in Civil/Structural Engineering.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Science (with Structural Engineering concentration).
  • Fifteen (15) plus years of experience as a Structural Engineer with a minimum of ten (10) years of focused experience in ports, marine and waterfront projects.
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary project teams, managing complex stakeholder environments including port authorities, contractors, regulatory agencies, and internal leadership.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in the design and delivery of maritime structures, including wharves, jetties, dolphins, seawalls, and marine terminals.
  • In-depth knowledge of structural analysis and design tools, with a solid understanding of United States codes, relevant international guidelines and the unique challenges of working in marine and coastal environments.
  • Experience with computer analysis and design software such as SAP 2000, RISA 3D, STAAD.Pro, SAFE.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
