Island Head Captain & Mate Positions
Hilton Head Island, SC & Savannah, GA

Island Head is a fast-growing, locally owned experience company based on Hilton Head Island that specializes in creating unforgettable on-the-water adventures. From dolphin tours and Daufuskie ferry trips to private charters, sunset cruises, sailing experiences, and dinner cruises, our mission is simple: deliver 5-star experiences that become lifelong memories.
We are looking for energetic, professional Captains and Mates who thrive in a fast-paced environment, love being on the water, and enjoy interacting with guests from around the world.
Captain Responsibilities
  • Safely operate Island Head vessels for a variety of experiences including dolphin tours, ferry transportation, private charters, sunset cruises, and specialty events
  • Ensure all Coast Guard and company safety procedures are followed at all times
  • Provide a fun, engaging, and informative guest experience while maintaining professionalism
  • Work closely with crew to deliver smooth operations and exceptional service
  • Complete vessel logs, safety checks, and routine maintenance reports
  • Maintain vessel cleanliness and readiness before and after trips
  • Assist with docking, fueling, and basic vessel upkeep
Mate Responsibilities
  • Assist the Captain with docking, passenger boarding, and safety procedures
  • Provide outstanding guest service including greeting guests, helping with seating, and answering questions
  • Assist with food and beverage service during select cruises and charters
  • Help keep the vessel clean, organized, and ready for each trip
  • Support onboard activities such as dolphin spotting, narration, and guest engagement
  • Assist with lines, fenders, and general deck duties
Qualifications
  • Captains: USCG Captains License (OUPV or Master depending on vessel)
  • Strong boating and seamanship skills
  • Ability to work in a team-focused, high-energy environment
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Comfortable speaking with and entertaining guests
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Availability for weekends, holidays, and peak season schedules
