Director of Finance

Job Summary

The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the hotel, ensuring financial integrity, compliance, and strategic planning. This role involves managing budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and financial analysis to support the hotel’s overall goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management

  • Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and internal policies.
  • Manage deadlines and communication with hotel owners and team members effectively.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to develop accurate and realistic financial plans.
  • Prepare and analyze financial forecasts to identify trends and provide actionable insights.
  • Track and monitor forecast and budget performance by departments and work with GM to provide insight to department heads.
  • Responsible for annual budget preparation as per owner requirements.
     

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Analyze financial performance and variances against budget, providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Advise General Manager on cost control and Profits
  • Support operational teams with financial insights and decision making.
     

Cash Flow Management

  • Monitor cash flow and manage working capital to ensure the hotel’s financial stability.
  • Develop strategies to optimize cash flow and minimize financial risks.
     

Internal Controls

  • Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard financial assets, mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with accounting regulations and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement.
  • Perform financial analysis as needed and /or requested by General Manager and Corporate Office.
  • Review Payroll for processing
  • Oversee purchasing processes, negotiate competitive pricing from vendors.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop the finance team, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work culture within the finance department.
  • Supervise Accounts payable and receivable function on regular basis.

Strategic Planning

  • Collaborate with executive management to develop financial strategies that align with the hotel’s business goals.
  • Participate in strategic decision-making, providing financial insights and analysis to support growth initiatives.

Tax Compliance

  • Ensure the accurate and timely preparation and submission of all local, state, and federal tax returns and reports.
  • Stay informed about changes in tax laws and regulations, and communicate with the corporate office to implement any adjustments.

Qualifications and Physical Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; a Master’s degree or CPA designation is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in finance or accounting, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within the hospitality industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of hotel finance, accounting principles, financial regulations, and tax laws
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of presenting complex financial information clearly.
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel; knowledge of hotel management systems is a plus.
  • Ability to work in an office environment for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work outside standard business hours when necessary to meet deadlines or attend meetings.
