Job description

The Doe Run Company is seeking a Chemical Technician to Prepare and process laboratory samples for quality data results (production, exploration, R&D, and environmental samples) to support operational, customer, and regulatory standards. This position is at the Quentin J Schmidt Lab in Viburnum, MO.
Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience utilizing lab equipment (preferably as chemist or chemical technician). Or 3 months of experience and an associate's degree.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Proficient computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.), Databases, LIMS, and PeopleSoft.
  • Basic knowledge of lab processes and importance of sample prep and analysis procedures.
  • Proficient in completing the sample prep duties.
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory equipment, analysis procedures, and instrumentation.
  • Proficient in positive customer service and communication skills.
  • Proficient in organizational and time management skills.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills regarding lab analysis results and equipment.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and process samples for quality data results on production, exploration, R&D, and environmental samples to support operational, customer, and regulatory standards. Ensure data meets accuracy and quality requirements, maintaining proper documentation and data integrity for all assigned sample streams.
  • Record and maintain accurate analytical data and assay results in accordance with laboratory standards to support overall operational and leadership objectives.
  • Monitor and maintain test equipment and laboratory instruments, including conducting routine maintenance and troubleshooting under supervision, and ensuring equipment is accurate and ready for use.
  • Complete sample prep duties as needed.
  • Complete tasks in a safe and environmentally compliant manner by following EHS (environmental, health, and safety) policies, procedures, and best practices; support and assist peers in working in a safe, compliant manner; report unsafe acts or conditions, incidents, and deviations; and provide feedback to support continuous improvement in EHS performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment, Physical & Lifting:
  • Frequently required to wear personal protective equipment, including but not limited to, a respirator, hearing protection, foot protection and eyewear, and work near moving, mechanical parts; occasionally exposed to extreme heat/cold(non-weather), wet humid (non-weather) and outdoor conditions. . Exposed to moderate noise levels.
  • Regularly requires standing, walking, reaching with hands/arms, and repetitive movement; occasionally requires grasping and pushing, feeling attributes of objects, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Requires clarity of vision, three-dimensional vision, precise hand-eye coordination, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Regularly required to lift up to 5 pounds; frequently required to lift up to 50 pounds; occasionally required to lift up to 75 pounds; Rarely required to lift up to 100 pounds
