Job description

Our core competencies include systems engineering, program management, logistics, production support, aircraft maintenance, and aviation/aerospace services. We understand and provide expert consultation on weapons systems acquisition programs, maintenance/modernization programs, and sustainment programs. We know defense and we know aircraft systems.
The Project Engineering Manager will be a technical leader and primary engineering interface for one or more Department of Defense programs, such as the Next Generation Penetrator (NGP) and advanced Proximity Fuze systems. This role is responsible for leading cross-functional engineering teams through all phases of the product lifecycle-from requirements analysis and design through integration, verification, and delivery-while ensuring technical performance, schedule adherence, and budget compliance. The Project Engineering Manager will drive alignment between engineering execution and program objectives, ensure compliance with DoD and company standards, and foster a culture of engineering excellence.
Essential Job Functions:
Technical & Project Leadership:
o Lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams supporting DoD programs, ensuring delivery of solutions that meet technical, quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
o Serve as the technical point of contact for government customers, prime contractors, and internal stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of engineering status, risks, and issues.
o Contribute to Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) for engineering deliverables, aligned with program milestones and Technology Readiness Level (TRL) goals.
o Oversee requirements decomposition, interface definition, and verification planning in accordance with MIL-STD and contract requirements.
Project & Team Management:
o Lead cross-functional teams (Integrated Product Team-style) focusing on Systems Engineering, System Safety, Configuration Management, disciplines.
o Determine and communicate clear priorities across a diverse team, and report on key performance metrics to senior leadership.
o Lead on-time completion of project deliverables in support of development and certification of advanced weapon systems.
o Manage hardware and software projects from CONOPS and joint development to certification and entry into service, ensuring smooth team communication and operation across the full project development lifecycle.
o Interface effectively with Regulatory Authorities (e.g., government certification bodies) and manage supplier relationships.
Team Leadership & Development:
o Lead, mentor, and develop junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented environment.
o Provide guidance and support in all aspects of program execution, including planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management across vertically integrated teams and teaming partners.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in engineering, including at least 3 years in project or technical leadership roles in DoD and/or aerospace programs.
  • Proven experience in systems engineering, validation & verification, requirements management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience managing engineering activities on complex programs involving integrated aircraft systems, weapon systems, or munitions.
  • Strong understanding of MIL-STD processes, SAE ARP4754, FAR/DFARS, and DoD acquisition lifecycle.
  • Strong knowledge of risk management, financial management, and quality assurance principles within a government contracting environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff, customers, and stakeholders.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is highly preferred.
  • Ability to attain or be eligible for a Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's in Business Administration (MBA).
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification.
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and digital engineering environments.
  • Experience with specific DoD agencies or commands relevant to Albers Aerospace's work (e.g., Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC), US Army, US Navy Program Offices).
  • Experience in the design and integration of munitions, loitering munitions, fuzing technologies, or other complex aerospace weapon systems.
  • Active involvement in industry organizations such as AIAA (e.g., Member, Associate Fellow, Committee involvement).
  • Background in All-Up Round (AUR) integration, warhead design, tail kit design, Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC), or Modeling, Simulation & Analysis (MS&A).

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Travel will be required from time to time.
