The Technician and Skilled Trades III role is a senior-level position that performs advanced technical and skilled trades tasks to support the design, fabrication, maintenance, and improvement of systems, equipment, and facilities. This position requires extensive technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and the ability to work independently on complex assignments. The role emphasizes innovation, quality, and collaboration to ensure operational readiness and reliability while mentoring junior team members and contributing to organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advanced Technical Operations
    • Perform advanced technical tasks such as welding (including aluminum welding), machining, fabrication, and assembly with a high degree of independence.
    • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot specialized tools, equipment, and machinery, including CNC machines and advanced welding systems.
    • Analyze and interpret complex technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to produce high-quality components and assemblies that meet DoD standards.
  • Fabrication and Prototyping
    • Execute precision machining and welding tasks, including gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) on aluminum alloys, joints, and thicknesses, for complex and mission-critical components
    • Lead the fabrication and assembly of prototypes and production systems, ensuring compliance with quality and defense-related standards.
    • Collaborate with engineers to design and develop components and manufacturing processes that improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Maintenance and Repairs
    • Perform advanced preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and structural systems critical to defense operations.
    • Conduct detailed inspections, testing, and diagnostics to ensure systems and equipment meet operational and quality standards.
    • Develop and implement recommendations for process improvements and system upgrades.
  • Safety, Compliance, and Security
    • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, quality standards, and regulatory requirements, including DoD contractor policies.
    • Participate in and lead safety training initiatives, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and risk mitigation.
    • Maintain security clearance requirements and follow all protocols for handling sensitive information and materials.
  • Leadership and Collaboration
    • Provide technical expertise, mentorship, and training to junior technicians, fostering skill development and ensuring quality standards are met.
    • Lead cross-functional teams to complete complex projects and resolve technical challenges in a defense-focused environment.
    • Communicate effectively with engineers, supervisors, and stakeholders to report progress, issues, and recommendations.


Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with additional technical coursework or certifications required.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing, machining, or welding environment, with demonstrated expertise in aluminum welding and machining processes.
  • Advanced proficiency in gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) on aluminum alloys, including AC and DC electrode negative techniques, and the ability to weld complex joints and thicknesses.
  • Extensive knowledge of CNC machining, including setup, operation, troubleshooting, and optimization for complex parts and materials.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze complex technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to ensure compliance with quality and DoD standards.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols, quality standards, and industry regulations, including DoD contractor requirements.
  • Advanced math skills, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and shop math.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in welding (e.g., AWS D1.1, D1.2, or D17.3) and machining (e.g., NIMS or equivalent).
  • Advanced experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software or technical drawings, including the ability to modify designs and optimize processes.
  • Familiarity with automated systems, robotics, or advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor junior technicians.


Work Environment/Conditions:

  • Work is performed in industrial, manufacturing, or climate-controlled environments.
  • Requires standing, sitting, bending, lifting (up to 50 pounds), and performing repetitive hand and wrist movements.
  • Exposure to noise, heat, and other environmental factors typical of technical trades work.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required and provided.
