Position Summary
The New STG Generator Installation Technical Advisor provides on-site technical leadership and advisory support during the installation and assembly of newly supplied steam turbine generators and associated auxiliary systems. The role is focused on new steam turbine generator installations and works closely with EPC contractors, Toshiba Japan engineering, and TAES project teams to ensure generator installation activities are executed in full compliance with Toshiba design specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
This position serves as the technical authority in the field for generator installation best practices and is responsible for the execution, witnessing, and documentation of all Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) installation checks through mechanical completion and turnover to commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide on-site technical advisory support for the installation and assembly of new steam turbine generators and associated auxiliary systems.
  • Long-term project site assignments (domestic and international), typically four to six months per site depending on project scope
  • Ensure generator installation activities are performed in accordance with Toshiba design drawings, specifications, installation manuals, and quality requirements.
  • Serve as the primary technical interface between EPC contractors, TAES project management, and Toshiba Japan engineering for generator-related installation activities.
  • Review and validate EPC generator installation procedures, lift plans, work sequences, and method statements for technical compliance.
  • Perform, witness, and document all Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) inspections and hold points associated with generator installation.
  • Verify critical alignments, elevations, clearances, torques, coupling interfaces, cleanliness, and preservation requirements.
  • Provide technical oversight of generator auxiliary systems including hydrogen cooling, seal oil systems, stator winding cooling water systems, and excitation interfaces.
  • Identify, document, and support resolution of installation non-conformances in coordination with engineering and quality teams.
  • Provide technical guidance to EPC supervision and craft labor to resolve field installation issues.
  • Participate in site safety meetings and actively promote safe work practices.
  • Support installation walk-downs, mechanical completion verification, and readiness for handover to commissioning.

Training, Qualification & Certification
  • Complete required classroom and factory training in Japan, including hands-on support of equipment assembly, to develop detailed knowledge of scope of supply, design documentation, and quality requirements. Expected three to four months of initial training in Japan.
  • Perform U.S.-based OJT assignments during new unit installations, with formal skill evaluations. Successful completion of one or more OJT assignments and demonstration of skills will result in TA certification as a fully qualified, billable Technical Advisor.
  • Participate in ongoing training in Japan to maintain qualification and support future project needs.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline preferred. Equivalent combination of technical training and extensive field experience will be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
  • Minimum 10-15 years of field experience in generator installation, erection, pre-commissioning, or commissioning within the power generation industry, including direct experience with new steam turbine generator installations.
  • Technical Knowledge: Generator installation practices; hydrogen-cooled generators; seal oil systems; stator winding cooling water systems; H2/CO2 gas systems; excitation interfaces; auxiliary piping and instrumentation; preservation and cleanliness requirements; and construction site safety and quality management systems.

Working Conditions
This position requires extended on-site assignment at power plant construction locations, typically up to one year per project depending on scope. Work will be performed in industrial environments and may include exposure to elevated structures, confined spaces, and varying weather conditions. Flexible work hours are required to support critical installation activities.
