Job description

Documentation Manager, Platforms & Ecosystems

The opportunity

Unity is looking for an exceptional Documentation Manager to join us on our mission to deliver great documentation in an AI assisted world!

We're looking for a leader with technical aptitude who can quickly form good working relationships across Unity, and work collaboratively to produce documentation that helps users get the most from Unity products. The AI revolution has changed the way developers learn how to use our software, through their AI agent. As Unity shifts its products to be AI friendly, we also have the opportunity to transform the documentation creation lifecycle to be AI-first, and redesign the technical writer function around holistic learning, AI-consumable content, and hands-on AI integration through skills creation. This is a build-and-lead role for someone who sees documentation not as a static deliverable, but as a living knowledge system that both humans and AI agents rely on to understand and operate Unity Platforms.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead and grow the Unity Platforms documentation team - hiring, coaching, performance management, and aligning priorities with engineering and product roadmaps.

  • Redesign the documentation creation cycle to be AI-first in collaboration with documentation leadership, using generative AI for drafting, review, gap analysis, and maintenance to cut cycle time and boost coverage.

  • Direct the team's work building and maintaining AI "skills" that let AI assistants act on Unity Platforms documentation as a source of truth.

  • Stay on top of advances in AI, and ensure our processes, and tech writer roles remain performant and competitive.

  • Collaborate closely with key stakeholders across the company to deliver the right content to the right user at the right time.

What we're looking for

  • 8+ years in technical writing, developer documentation, or content strategy, including 4+ years managing people.

  • Hands-on experience with generative AI tools, automation and workflows applied to content.

  • A track record of leading a documentation or content team through major process or tooling transformation.

  • Ability to define metrics and quality frameworks, and to influence senior engineering/product stakeholders.

You might also have

  • Strong background in developer-facing documentation for platforms, SDKs, or APIs - game engine or platform engineering experience a plus.

  • Experience writing and publishing different types of user-facing documentation such as API guides, programmer guides, installation guides, and user manuals for an international audience.
