Distant Moon Post Producer | Leesburg, VA

Distant Moon is an award-winning production company seeking a Post Producer to help lead and manage post-production projects across documentary, commercial, and narrative work from kickoff through final delivery.

This role is for someone who thrives in the organizational and communication side of the creative process a producer who can lead teams, keep projects moving, manage priorities under pressure, and help protect creative teams from unnecessary operational noise. We're looking for someone who can bring structure, accountability, and strong communication into a fast-moving post-production environment while working closely with editors, directors, producers, and clients throughout the lifecycle of a project.

We care far more about good judgment, leadership ability, communication skills, and the ability to keep projects and people moving effectively than checking every box on a rsum.

What You'll Do
  • Lead and manage post-production projects from kickoff through final delivery
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for post-production communication, revisions, approvals, and delivery coordination
  • Manage schedules, editor bandwidth, project priorities, review cadence, and overall post-production workflow across multiple projects
  • Translate creative direction and client feedback into clear, actionable notes for editors and post-production teams
  • Help maintain accountability, communication, and alignment across editorial teams and creative leadership
  • Coordinate communication and handoffs between editorial, sound, color, VFX, archival, legal, and delivery teams
  • Maintain visibility on project health, timelines, budgets, deliverables, and evolving creative priorities while proactively identifying risks or bottlenecks
  • Reduce operational and administrative load on editors and creative leadership by helping keep projects organized, communicated, and moving forward efficiently
What We're Looking For
  • Approximately 4+ years of experience producing, coordinating, or managing creative projects across post-production, production, documentary, commercial, branded content, agency, digital media, YouTube/media, or related creative environments
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple moving projects simultaneously
  • Experience leading schedules, priorities, communication, and workflow coordination across creative teams
  • Strong understanding of creative production and post-production workflows including editorial, approvals, delivery processes, and cross-functional coordination
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to manage client expectations and collaborate effectively across creative teams
  • Comfortable operating in fast-moving creative environments with shifting priorities and evolving timelines
  • Strong sense of ownership, adaptability, accountability, and follow-through
  • Self-directed, dependable, and comfortable balancing both high-level project oversight and day-to-day production realities

Exceptional organization, leadership ability, and relevant creative industry experience may be considered in place of traditional post-production backgrounds.

Bonus Experience
  • Previous experience as a producer, post producer, editor, assistant editor, or creative project lead
  • Experience managing editors, creative teams, or post-production workflows
  • Familiarity with project management systems such as Teamwork, Monday, Asana, Airtable, or similar platforms
  • Experience working in documentary, agency, commercial, or branded content environments

Work Environment

Distant Moon operates from a purpose-built creative studio in Leesburg, Virginia designed specifically for filmmakers, editors, and storytellers. Our workspace was intentionally built to support collaboration, focused editorial work, production planning, and creative development across all stages of filmmaking.

This is an in-person role working alongside directors, editors, producers, and creatives in a highly collaborative studio environment. The space includes dedicated edit suites, production areas, collaborative workspaces, and creative gathering spaces designed to support both focused work and team collaboration.

While much of the role involves desk-based editorial work, team members may occasionally assist with production-related activities, equipment movement, or on-set support as needed.
