THE POSITION

Do you have a passion for helping children and families within your community? The Westmoreland County Children's Bureau is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Clerk Typist to complete our team. Our mission is to protect children from abuse and neglect, preserve families whenever possible, and to ensure that every child under our care and supervision has a safe, stable and permanent home in which to grow. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position plays an important role in keeping office operations organized and responsive. You will support staff, visitors, and the community through careful attention to clerical tasks. As a Clerk Typist 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Office Communication: Answer telephone calls and greet visitors while routing inquiries to staff
  • Document Handling: Reproduce materials, file documents, and retrieve information alphabetically, numerically, or chronologically
  • Mail Processing: Open, sort, and distribute incoming mail, and prepare outgoing correspondence
  • Typing Tasks: Type letters, reports, transactions, and similar documents from various sources
  • Information Verification: Review materials for accuracy, consistency, and proper formatting
  • Work Coordination: Provide guidance to coworkers by distributing assignments, offering assistance, and reviewing completed work

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:The starting salary is non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months as a Clerk Typist 1 and educational development to the level of eighth grade; or
  • Completion of a high school business curriculum which included at least one typing course; or
  • Any combination of equivalent experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
